Congrats to Horizon Air Mechanics on a new contract. I like how the membership held out for better starting pay and other advances in order to maintain and keep the workforce in place @ Horizon Air. Great work by all involved. I tip my hat to the nego teams involved at the table...

Press Release: AMFA-Horizon Air Members Vote to Ratify Contract
May 10, 2022 -- AMFA-Horizon members made it crystal clear with a 93% majority vote to ratify the tentative agreement at Horizon Air, they believe that this industry-leading agreement is what they deserve for themselves and their families,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich.

A couple of items to note below is how quickly AMFA and Horizon nego a new contract for the Mechanics and Related. Also note that AMFA, once again, was successful in getting their members full retro backdated to the amendable date of contract. Something you should NEVER forego or allow anything less than full retro, as companies will continually try to get out of in future contracts. I understand that the full retro was only backdated to Jan of 2022, BUT, what if they decided to drag this contract out for 5-6 years (like they did ours) where AMFA was also successful in getting us full retro plus some for the company playing so many games with their employees. Again congrats to the Mechanics and Related at Horizon for a new well deserved contract in a rather very short amount of time...

They didn't renegotiate everything. They took some items and improved them but left the bulk of the previous agreement.
And in true AMFA form, put out a poor TA holding back the final terms only to make it look like they did something move the company on the second go around....same old AMFA.
Post the contract. Show everything.

You would think if they were proud of the deal they would strut it out there like a Peacock? But honestly from reading this it sounds like Horizon just knew it had no choice but to raise wages purely as a matter of competition to entice job applications.

“AMFA representatives say the workgroups at Horizon Air faced labor shortages going into negotiations.

“This TA represents a fair and equitable wage increase which compensates our members for their hard work and talent,” says Oestreich. “With the wage gains in this contract, Horizon will be able to hire and retain the talented workforce it needs while allowing the company to grow and prosper.”

This newly ratified contract is a regional industry-changing agreement with significant pay increases, industry-leading license premiums, shortened pay progression scale, and retroactive pay”

Swamp you missed the boat in your comment here. You said that AMFA got them “full retro” and then said they were only able to get them retro back to January 2022. They’re contract became amendable in December 2020. You’re missing a whole year of retro there. All of 2021.

To be fair understandable though since it was more prudent to suspend negotiations until enough of the Pandemic subsided. But AMFA still did not get them full retro.

One big reason why Horizon chose AMFA for representation. If you guys had any one of the other industrial unions they could have forced an LOA into your contract without a membership vote. With AMFA, the membership controls their CBA 100% not the upper officers and or presidents as well as the international as with the industrial unions period. We all remember when TWU Jim Little forced a number of LOAS with no membership input or votes. Something so small that means so much when it comes to your CBA. Something to think about. Way to go guys on such a good decision on your choice of representation ladies and gentlemen...

Some may think that this is no big deal since this LOA is only dealing with uniforms, however, let's look at the overall "BIG" picture of the power that comes from the membership with LOA's. LOA's in an AMFA membership is Letter of Agreements that are "VOTED" on by the entire membership to be added to the contract book. With AMFA "ANY" change in words, language, intent and of course pay and or work rules, or ANY change what-so-ever in the contract (and yes, even punctuation) has to be Accepted, approved and even voted on by the entire membership by a vote. UNLIKE the industrial unions who can and have taken LOA's and simply agreed with the co and added it to the contracts without a membership vote (TWU/IAM and the teamsters are all known for doing this in the past)
Just think, something as simple as a uniform change in language and or rules takes a full membership approval and vote to be cleared to enter the contract book. As does anything and everything else in your contact book, where other industrial unions have too much power to do as they wish with your contracts.
One reason why AMFA is growing at so many airlines right now...

57% participation. Only 105 people that voted for “Uniforms” One ☝️ Hundred and Five.

Now what AMFA members need to note is that this vote was tallied at the end of September 2022. Make sure you check out next years LM2’s and see how much the Law Firm of Seeham will be paid in October?

I’m going to guess just for this piddly little vote alone Seeham will have been paid $30,000? That’s my guess, $30,000. That’s also on top of the money they wasted for Reps and Election Buddy for “UNIFORMS”

If the TWU wanted me to vote on a referendum that gave me an extra one or two uniforms per year I’d have to ask Gary if he lost his mind. I don’t need to vote on “uniforms” alone. Ridiculous waste of my dues.
