Of course he does he help landscape the airline industry of today and the problems that exist
The biggest mistake ever made in this industry!!"Crandall is credited with creating one of the first frequent flyer programs in the airline industry, the AAdvantage program."[/url]
The biggest mistake ever made in this industry!!
So you like his resume I can only guess why. Does it have something to do about an airline still having their pension? “He’s a ahole but our ahole†by APACrandall is a visionary. The legacy carriers needed effective techniques to compete when dumped into the unknown (to them) world of deregulation, or the upstarts would have killed them off through "death by a thousand little cuts."
Crandall found a way to keep people flying American, and that was his job. American is the only legacy carrier not to have filed Chapter 11 and that fact alone is testament to healthy carrier he created.
But really, programs such as the FF were certainly not unique in concept. They were only new to the airline industry. "Green Stamps" had already been around for decades; Crandall merely made the concept work for the airlines.

Doses it have..
I got you guys in this mess I can get you out
What exactly does that mean?
Doses it have?
That's just it. American and Continental are still the best positioned legacy carriers out there, and the reason is Crandall and Bethune.

You are so dillusional. First off, CAL was the "trash" that AMR used to spit on; remember those days?? Now you are praising them... B/C your compAAny screwed you outside of BK, is nothing to brag about... Second, AMR or CAL is not in the best financial position.. You don't say you are in a good financial position when your debt load is more than your cash on hand, coupled with the fact you have the highest labor costs in the industry.. CAL is not in a great position either, I suspect CAL UAL DAL did a good thing by cutting massively, AMR is in a unique position - they have to take on more debt as they get rid of old craft. If they could just retire the 80's and park them, that would be a VERY good thing.. We will see how it pans out.. The best thing to remember is not to have high expectations of your carrier, it could dissapoint you severely in the long run...
Wow! Uncle Bob is a train enthusiast!
And his 'sum-of-locals' is an interesting idea. But if he couldn't get his competition to go along with 'value-pricing' a decade ago then this local idea will remain just a theory.
I have to disagree with his 'keep out the foreigners' stance about airline investment. As a businessman he knows the value of new capital but I've got to think he is posturing for the Dept of Trans Secretary for President Obama.
Like him or not, Crandall is a decisive leader.
