Crew members at AWA fly seperate... US together

I think it would be ok if we split up as long as AFA negotiates certain protections. I for one would LOOOOVE 10 hour one days, PHL- PHX turns, etc. There are FA's that still live for their layovers as well, so I guess it would be good for the AFA to have the Company guarantee a balance of trips.

Doesn't HP have a lot of PHX/LAS- East Coast turns?
We don't have as many East Coast turns like we used to....looked at the March Bid and these are PHX turns....ORD,MCO,ATL,ACA,MSP,RDU,CUN....Most East Coast cities now are one leg over...short layover...one leg back....

If I am correct, US is the only one that does. I do find it interesting that we are. If it is so efficient, why isn't everyone doing it. There must be a reason why they don't.
I'm confused here. It was my understanding that most airlines kept crews together except Jetblue/AWA and that is what caused the recent winter problem for Jetblue. My information and contact must be off base here.

US keeps crews together.
AWA seperates them.

Your saying US is the only one that keeps crews together?
Does Jet Blue keep crews together or seperate?

I sure do like the idea of getting my time in faster.

The big difference is that the East F/As can only fly up to eight flight hours domestically. I hear that the West can go to fourteen.
If that were to change it could work FOR us as well as AGAINST us. I think we should be carefull as to what we wish for. High time trips being seperated and worked like a dog possibly as well.

Us WEST can schedule to 13 hours then the F/As can go to 14.5 hours due to irregualr ops. Anything over 14.5 the F/As have to volunteer.

It should be important to note that the majority of West FAs DO NOT volunteer to fly over a 14.5 duty day (unless it gets them back to base). This is largely due to the fact that the "incentive" to do so is not worth it (highly taxed, like a bonus) and usually involves a fight with payroll/timekeeping/scheduling to get the extra pay.

JetBlue flies separate from pilots. that is why there trips are more efficient. I think we should at least look into this. Not saying we have to go to it, but at least look. JMO.

Sort of a mixed bag on the east. Some f/a's (and pilots) will go over to get home, or to serve the passengers, and some will not. Cant fault them for following the contract.

As for seperate pairings, I dont see the benefit to it. An f/a can work more than 8 hours block? Find one on the east that wants too! It would be a grave error, in my opinion, to scratch for additional block. F/A's would be much better off fighting for a raise, not extended block.

As far as crews running out of time at the same time, I think it's better to keep full crews together. You're not going to find another cockpit crew in ERI to replace a cockpit crew thats out of time. What good is it to have f/a's who are still legal???

Correct me if I'm wrong here but, the pilots and F/As have almost identical flight and duty rigs on the East. I believe the pilots can go one hour longer than the F/As for duty. I'm getting the impression that some people are suggesting that the pilots go illegal earlier than the F/As and I don't think that that is the case. Splitting up can improve utilization of the F/As because they are qualified on more than one type of a/c. We've stuck together for many years due to the "me too" clause. As to flying more than eight flight hours...you can forget about that. I know that the high time turns go senior on the West, but I really don't think that they will be all that popular on the East. We do have some very high time one days, and they generally go junior because they work you like a dog. On the East, if you're on a 13+ duty day, you're totally dead by the end of the day. Fourteen block is ridiculous and unsafe.

I agree 100%

You'd be surprised. When we started ATL-SEA and other west coast turns, they went pretty senior. 80 hours for working 8 days a month will go senior. Especially because it's only 2 legs, you pop in a movie, and the meal service is nothing to write home about.

Roughly, what's the block and duty day for a atl sea turn?

I had a block of PHL-SJU turns on the A330 once. It looks pretty good on paper but, I will never do a block like that again. What good is it when you work only a few days but for the rest of the month, you simply can't speak?
