😛 JetBlue CEO cites hiccups in Embraer plane debut 😛

JetBlue’s aggressive expansion plans may have to slow a little bit, judging by comments made Thursday by airline CEO David Neeleman. Speaking at a conference in New York, Neeleman says the airline has experienced glitches with its new 100-seat Embraer 190 jets –- something that’s forced the low-cost carrier to slow the introduction of the new jets into service. "We have had some operational issues with the airplane," he says. The plane's introduction "certainly hasn't been up to what we thought we could do." Reuters writes that Neeleman suggests the airline may have set a too ambitious schedule for the debut of Embraer 190, with the news service adding that those “problems have coincided with ongoing struggles at JetBlue with late flights."

JetBlue is the launch customer for the Embraer 190, and has pegged much of its aggressive growth strategy on using 100-seat aircraft to fly to medium-sized markets. JetBlue first began flying the jet between JFK and Boston in November, but Neeleman says the E190's reliability has been "a few percentage points less" than JetBlue’s Airbus planes in terms of glitches that delay flights. Meanwhile, JetBlue has been struggling to improve its on-time rating, which had fallen to 63.6% during December...

Could this be a smoke screen for the fact that lately Jet Blue hasn't been exactly breaking down the door to the bank profit wise and they need to slow down their aggressive expansion plans for money reasons?
No Bob, they're POS's.

Is there a fundamental difference other than size between the 170 and the 190. It seems the 170 was less of a headache on introduction.

Could it be because US Airways has introduced numerous fleet types over the past half a century, while this is JetBlue's second aircraft type, and a relatively new one.

Republic seems to be having ontime issues, not sure if it's the plane. US/MDA seemed to perform well after the initial teething problems.

Except that the teething phase lasted almost 2 years....that a whole lot of teeth.

The only thing wrong with MDA was its bad contracts/union reps and the company's bad idea to make it express

Art, not much difference that I'm aware of. I'm on the 170. The aircraft have the same type rating. and same systems, and most importantly the same avionics suite. The Avionics are so important as that is where the majority of the problems came from, all computer controlled and all tied together. Maybe I have been lucky, but I have had only 1 glitch that has caused a cancellation, or late depart in about 10 months. While there are still issues, I think this is because the Airways pilots and MTC have a pretty good handle on the aircraft now. Unfortunetely management needed their bonuses so anyone that can is leaving, and the rest will be shown the door in a couple of months.
