Cust Service Interview - Advice & Questions

WOW... When I worked for Trans States we flew free on all Trans States flights and all US Airways mainline/Express domestic...

So UAL's flight benefits are not free? Hmm...I may have to rethink this. I was used to just showing up at the airport and going wherever I wanted to without having to make prior reservations.

You have to "list" on a flight, which you can do online thru skynet. Skynet will also show you seating availability. Once you're "listed', you can just go thru the easy check-in kiosks (unless you're checking luggage, but flying NRSA I never check baggage, only bring carryon. We went to New Zealand for over a week with two standard carry-ons and two "briefcase" type bags.

As for price, it varies based on length of flight and class (first/business/coach), and whether or not it's United or United Express (dunno about Ted, assume same as regular United but haven't flown one yet). I don't know if the cost information is considered "proprietary" or not, so I won't pass on the exact cost of any flights here unless someone else says it's OK (and they could pass it on. If you already have access to skynet you can look it up under "weblist". Just go thru step 1 to prepare an itinerary. then click on the "IAD-LAX" and it will give you the cost for 1st (three class only) business/first (first if two class), and coach. It also gives you the cost for a companion fare, if you have any friends bugging you for companion passes.

( I will note that usually the fee for flying business/2 class first is almost double that of coach, and flying three class first is almost 2.5 times that of coach. But it's still pretty darn cheap IMHO.)

Dunno if it's the same now, but a few years ago on certain high traffic hub routes (ORD-SFO or ORD-LAX), the companion fares were essentially the same as the steeply discounted coach tickets.

Also note that the costs change regularly (monthly?), but usually by very little.

As already noted, the fees for any travel are withheld from your paycheck as a "service charge".

Last note: if you ever get on a flight in first/business and after boarding you get bumped down to a lower class seat, be sure to get something in writing to verify that this happened, keep your paystubs showing the fee, and be prepared for a long running battle with payroll or whoever does the charges, because they will charge you for the higher class seat. (This happened to us on our SFO-SYD flight, and I swear it took over six months and numerous interchanges both by phone and email before we got our credit).

EH, somebody else did mention costs, so I'll note that as of now, round trip coach IAD-LAX is a little over $40.

You guys/gals are great!!!

Thank you very very much!

My mom is a flight attendant for Trans States, so I will just stay on her pass benefits since I am still in college (cough cough)...they seem better than UAL mainlines. I actually talked to the Trans States pass department today and if I fly on UAL mainline under her benefits, it would actually be cheaper than using my UAL mainline employee benefits. Seems kinda wrong, eh? Oh well...I will take the extra step and save the cash!

Thanks everyone again!
