About a month ago, a Southwest tug ran into the end of a NW DC9 at Midway, right? Am I losing my mind? I know I read about this and now I've spent half an hour searching to no avail.

I'm wondering two things:

1. are there any photos of the incident?

and, most importantly,

2. what was the tail number of the DC9 that was w/o?

MANY THANKS!

There is a DC9 that has been showing out of service at MDW due to "aircraft damage" for some time now... I'm sorry I don't have the tail number, as I'm not at work, and won't be going back until Sunday... A cursory Google search and a trip through the NTSB & FAA sites turned up nothing...Maybe someone else can provide it?

Not a lot of info for you, I know... But hey, at least you know you're not crazy!

Hey Kev,
Unless your off S/S,......How'd you get Easter off ???

( Glad you did though,......cause someone's got to color those "eggs" from the Bunny)

Holidays off? Never heard of such a thing!

No, I'll be there on Sunday...The Easter Bunny will be doing a "matinee" appearance at our house.

P.S. Neither Easter or Good friday are "holidays" at NWA.

Thanks all. This is precisely the incident I was looking for. There's almost no press on this at all, so I'm thankful for the link.

I'm still hoping that someone can eventually tell us which a/c this was.

Many thanks again.

It was N605NW/fleet number 9605 (DC9-30).

Kev: Any word on what was the damage done that made it a "write off"? By who? Pilot? Ramp? Contract services?

I'm sorry, but I can't find a single thing anywhere about it...The OP stated that it was hit by a WN tug, but that's all I know.

MDW is still staffed by NWA employees, so I don't think it was a contractor/vendor....

I'll keep looking, as my curiousity is piqued.

Kev --

Thanks SO MUCH for the a/c specifics. That was one of the old Alitalia birds. Sad to see it go.

I was told by an NW crew member that it was hit by a WN tug. As I stated in my initial post, there is exceedingly scant info out there on this incident -- I suppose largely because it involved no pax. My primary interest, however, was in determining the a/c. I very much appreciate it.

A sad ending for that DC-9. Curious that the cockpit windows were not salvaged before the backhow started chewing up the plane.

The -nine has always been one of my favorites. Merger fleet plans notwithstanding, what is the phase out time line for the type?
