Just like on Deal or No Deal, greed to get it all has shot down the DL/NW merger.

Neither side will get everything they want, but are blinded by such greed and ego's that they won't settle for a big pile of cash, instead of the REALLY BIG pile of cash.

Nice going flybabys.

It sounds like you were looking forward to a deal between the two airlines.

NH--WHAT is your problem?? I've about had it; every time I sine on..You diss Delta on every forum under every topic...like a broken record. What did Delta every do to you?
I've never been one to get into the "my airline is better than yours" mentality on these boards but other than Asia, what does NW have going for it? Like it or not, this IS a service industry. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but what service/amenities does NW have going for it? Why do they have such an awful reputation for service and employee relations? I was warned back in 1978 not to apply for a position at NW as my friend's sister was a f/a at the time and even then (in the good ol' days) was miserable. Back to service....What do you get on a 3.5 hr flight on NW? Did they ever put movies back on? At Delta, many a/c are equipped with COACH in-seat video w/ several free TV channels, games, mp3s, and a selection of 7 movies. DL is selling gourmet salads, pastas and sandwiches on all domestic flights over 1,000 miles. Lie-flat beds are here or coming in Biz Class. and more..
I'm mystified with your attitude. If you were talking Cathay, Singapore, Lufthansa or Virgin, I could understand. But I hate to break this to you, NW has not had a good reputation for service since....well, I don't know. Routes? Yes, they have Asia but don't forget the Euro is very strong against the dollar right now and many Europeans are travelling to the US. Also, NW has no presence in S.America.
So despite your disparaging remarks against DL, I hate to break it to you...DL will be fine without NW.
PS: I did my time on DC9s (back in the day)...no thanks, not interested.
second PS: Doug 'ratface' Steenland issued a memo Tues (same day as DL's) and seemed more intent on consolidation in his memo than "Sir" Richard (as you like to call him) did in his...so NW MUST need someone.

Oh BTW, that other guy winking at you is none other than your pal Steenland!

He seems to conveniently forget that point. Must have something to do with those AA colored glasses he can't see through.

It's more about what DL hasn't done. NHBB has a personal issue with DL's lack of unions and his fear that AA would take a third row seat.

Funny thing, the lack of a union is what drew me to Delta.

The fact that Doug looks the part of the fiend proves that Rich has got all of you fooled. He may not look the part but Rich is every bit as nasty and more calculating than Doug.
The DL fleet isn't as shiny and new as you think. DC9, MD-80, Whats the differance?
Entertainment in seat backs are not unique to DL.
The one thing unique to DL is their employees and their willingness to take it in the rear time and time again and turn around and defend that company as though it never happened.
NW employees are better off without DL non-union weekness.
NW and DL can both go it alone for now.

About 10 to 15 years difference. Not to mention the fact that NW will park more than 30% of them by the end of this year. DL is not parking aircraft. Big difference.

Not unique, but DL is far ahead of NW in this department.

The one thing unique to DL is their employees and their willingness to take it in the rear time and time again and turn around and defend that company as though it never happened.

So the NW employees didn't take it in the rear? How well did the NW mechanics union protect them?

NW and DL can both go it alone for now.
Only thing we agree on. NW's labor relations are a nightmare. Second only to US Airways.

Bagboy, despite what you may believe, I am not a Delta "cultist". I don't even live in ATL 😉 and furthermore, I am supporting the AFA drive for DL f/a's. My posting to NH had to do with his constant berating of Delta and subsequent build-up of NW as it relates to each company's intrinsic value. In response I decided to post DL's positive attributes as it relates to both airlines' being in the customer service industry. I don't see the same plusses on the NW side. The point isn't that entertainment in seatbacks is unique to DL, BUT that it exists for DL customers and so far, does NOT exist for NW customers. The same goes for other amenities. I think because they don't actually face the customer on a daily basis, SOME below-wing employees (and retirees), while contributing greatly to the daily operation of an airline, occasionally lose sight of the fact that we are in the business of safety AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I also believe that you can give exceptional customer service, support your airline AND be pro-union.
The one thing in your posting I do agree with is some DL employees' weakness to stand up for themselves and obtain a legal and binding contract. This is something the DL f/a group is trying to change. Whether it happens or not is another story....the co. is working hard to steer f/a's away from voting 'yes'.
I understand the defensiveness of NW employees. They've been mistreated for years by management, worked short-staffed for years and subsequently been harangued for bad customer service by the press and public for just as long. Your saying NW doesn't need DL shows that even after the pay and benefit cuts, pension freezes, etc..there is still some pride in being a NW employee. Well, the same goes for being a DL employee.
I wish and hope the best for all airline workers.

Great Post Luke...

Thanks, Bababooy. You just get to a point sometimes where you have to call 'em as you see 'em. I could only go so far listening to defenders of an airline with the customer service ratings of NW continually slam DL. I mean, it's not like NW is Singapore or Emirates.
As Nell Carter used to sing "Gimme a break.."

PS: cute dog...is he/she yours?

It's a dysfunctional family, but it's our family, you know?
