First off, in all fairness, this management team did not cause our BK. Most of them weren't even here. We started losing BILLIONS after 9/11-and never stopped losing BILLIONS. Practically every airline analyst out there (some I respect-others I don't) states the same thing-DL should have filed for BK much sooner. We didn't even take paycuts until 2003-2004 (2 years after losing BILLIONS). My point here, is that DL never wanted to face reality. We were a "family" and they were gonna take care of us. Well, those days are over. Some are having a harder time accepting that.
I don't expect any company to take care of me. However, I want to be proud of what I'm doing. Every opinion I've formed about USAirways, and its service was formed by listening to USAirways flight attendants and passengers on this message board. I have never flown on the new USAirways. What I read, however, worries me. If we merge-can we look forward to the same thing? Powdered creamers, shrunken First Class, little (or no) coat closets, defecting premium customers?
I'm not bashing, these are observations that USAirways employees have said on their message boards. I'm not saying we have to be BA or Virgin, but DL's service, at least is not embarassing. These, to me, are valid questions.
I was in management for a while. Yeah, that's exactly what we do. We sit around and think "how can we really screw the employees?" 🙂
As for being non-union; that's precisely why DL always put us "at or near the top" in pay and benefits. What's worse than having a union? The threat of getting one!
I'm indifferent to unions. As a F/A, I don't have one-although we probably now need one. We're certainly not irreplacable.
As a nurse, I do have one, and it's a complete waste of money. You have to practically kill someone to get fired. And even then, the hospital down the road is offering $10,000 sign-on bonuses for nurses.
