"We are very disappointed by this unilateral action by the Venezuelan government and we are working closely with the U.S. departments of State and Transportation, as well as the airlines who received similar notice, to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," said Gina Laughlin, a spokeswoman for Delta Air Lines Inc.

well I'd say if the govt of venezuaela wants to lose more money form toruism loses, then go ahead. but I must say they are making a fatal mistake by not allowing DAL and CAL and AA down there

But aren't they still allowing AA to go there (at least from MIA)? Seems a little unfair to me.

Venezuela is a major oil-producing country. Tourism is not, nor has it been for some years, an important part of their economy. However, that is more due to the fact that Caracas is known to be "not safe" than to any restrictions on travel there.

AA lost its JFK, DFW and SJU flights. They also lost the MAR flight and are limited to 3 MIA-CCS

DAL and CAL lost it all because they only offered a single daily flight.

CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuela has delayed a suspension of some U.S. passenger and cargo flights until March 30 while the government holds talks with U.S. carriers over the restrictions, authorities said Saturday.

Chavez-land's main tourist spots are the beach resorts of Isla de Margarita, located just off the coast in the Caribbean Sea between Caracas and the island nation of Trinidad.
I don't think any US carrier serves Porlamar, the main town on Margarita, though.

The reason AA can continue its 3 Miami-CCS flights is the Venezuelan airlines fly 3 time daily to Miami too. I see very little chance of commercial suucess for a Venezuelan airline flying to Atlanta, Houston or Dallas. San Juan and New York - JFK are places Venezuelans travel to and should be sustainable for a Venezuelan airline to fly. By limiting or eliminating Delta and Continental, Chavez is just sticking it to the Gringos.

Well it is wonderful for AA that they can now carry all of the traffic that used to flow over their own hubs as well as IAH and ATL flow traffic. Seems that those should be very profitable flights for AA. I don't think they will complain much. Glad they could get another "unfair competition" token to add to their bag.

Venezuela has backed off for now. Guess they aren't interested in a full blown pi87ing contest w/ the US.

Well WT, mabey YES, but then again, mabey NO.

It is'nt America per se' Chavez hates, it MORON's like BUSH instead.(Chavez has said so numerous times)

The Venezuelan's that tried DESPERATLY to get ol' HUGO's election "thrown out" were the BIG $$ people.
(Venezuelan "Republican's if you will.)

After it was FINALLY determined that Chavez's election was "LEGIT", you could hear the Pissin', WAILIN' and Moanin', all the way from Caracas !!

For a encore, Ordinary Bolivian's elected Evo Morales(an Indian)(Chavez is 1/2 Indian), for their Presidente.

Now of COURSE, Bush and Company HAD TO start with the "name calling"(Leftists, Socialists, etc.

Funny thing about Republicans(World wide), They "HATE LIKE HEL*" to lose POWER) !!!!!

"Hugo" does need to keep an eye out though, because(Probably THE MOST DANGEROUS man in america) the RELIGOUS RIGHT WING "WHACKO", Pat Robertson, with his "book" in hand, says "someone should go down there, and assasinate him"

Only in America !!!!!!!!!

Don't forget that Chavez's vast oil supplies compete directly with Bushies business interests in the US and Middle East (i.e. the whole platform of his "reign"...to beef up profits of his family and cronies).
