DFW Int'l Term D to open July 23. Well maybe but not for AA service. Last I heard it may not be sooner then Aug 10. While OA may get started and I'm not sure of that. AA has not taken certificate of occupancy. They (DFW contractors) are having big time problems with the baggage delivery system. When will we move in I'm not sure. Our bid was to go into effect on July23 but has been put off indefinately.

Hope this bag system is not by th same company that did the one DEN. That was a disaster we do not need to repeat.

You know S80dude, Now I heard that yes, this is the same outfit that built DEN. I also heard that most of those that did the actual work were outsourced ( from south of the Rio Grande ) and rewired it to at least get it running. They were then sent their way before final testing and
" Wah-Lah " the current engineers are going over the wiring to get the D%$&%$ thing in working order. Like I said this comes from someone who was told by this CSM who sat in on that mtg that.. Well you know what I mean. I'll know more on Sat. I've been on Vacation for 2 wks.

I heard that the A/C Maintenance Breakroom/control room has 7 foot ceilings and the bag belt running above it. The decibel level is above 100 so therefore unusable per OSHA standards. Nothing like some great planning.

Most of the old systems were BAE, but they got out of it. The new technology is great but the components themselves are not as durable. The sections that used to last years are breaking down every 6-9 months. Not the whole system but certain parts.

BB
You must be referencing the C terminal bag belt system. That has been open @ 2 1/2 yrs and continues to be a major headache with its motor burn-outs.
With Term D, I am of the understanding that nearly 30% of the bags going into the system end at the wrong carrousel. They will then have to be manually xfrd to the correct loading area. Excess manpower and AA is not willing to accept it yet, so no move-in date.

That has been changed. A real ready room is in the works.

They ran some tests on Thursday and actually got all the bags placed into the system to sort to the correct piers (none going to default), which is a good sign. Unfortunately, they were spaced out with about 10-15' between bags, so it was by no means a realistic test, but at least it's a start.

We're supposed to have 30 days notice from the airport that we're able to move in. As of Friday morning, we still hadn't been notified.

The Ramp Bid that was to take effect today has now been cxld. No word on when a new bid is sched.
Want more? The sprinkler system was hung too low and if the closing curtains on LD3s ( ie wide body loading cans) or folded on top of the pods... BINGO!! Wipe out a few sprinlers set off the entire system and lots of wet things. As I saw today it looks like they're replumbing. I hope that plAAner isn't from hdq.
Want more? Also heard today that the DFW airport Board doesn't want any domestic trips in Term D. If that is the case AA will have a hard time filling the 18 or so gates with Intls.
Want more? When gate D40 in use the first 2 gate in Term B cannot be used.
Want more? Narrow roadways below in bagroom to cause possible safety hazzards with only inches to spare if a bag cart is next to carousels for loading. A cart or tractor has little room to manouver.
To be Cont....
Who the hell designed this piece of crap

Last 3 gates in D including 40 will be used for international Eagle flights to Mexico. This will allow the continued use of B-1 and B-2 by Eagle also since they are all such smaller aircraft.

More testing before American moves in

D/FW AIRPORT - American Airlines, the main tenant for Dallas/Fort Worth Airport's new Terminal D, probably won't start operating there until mid-September at the earliest.

Testing of baggage and computer systems has not convinced D/FW staff members that the terminal can handle the large scope of American's operations. An additional six or eight weeks of tests should do the trick, they said Tuesday.

"I would suspect this will last until sometime after the end of the month -- and I don't think they'd move in during Labor Day weekend," said Clay Paslay, D/FW executive vice president of airport development.

D/FW postponed the opening of Terminal D in early July because of delays with the baggage system and concessions.

Tuesday's discussion was prompted by questions from board members about why American has not moved in.

American will first move a bank of 78 daily flights, including international flights and domestic connections for passengers who started their trips overseas, airline spokesman Tim Smith said. Eventually American plans 114 daily flights from Terminal D.

But when?

In a memo sent Tuesday to the airline's employees, American's Tim Ahern, vice president of the D/FW hub, wrote: "The airport and its contractors continue to test all the major terminal systems, including baggage, security and others. Our Facilities Maintenance Mechanics are now working alongside them each day. Testing always means there are variables. When we have a more precise move-in date, we will immediately pass it on to you."

For now, nobody knows.

The latest I hear is there will be anew bid effective for OCT 1st. I exoect that to be a realistic date.

Fit checks were done with a 777 a week ago and everything fit and worked well.
