Dang, I would be livid. I have owned several guitars worth well over $2k each, some over $5k or more now a days. They were all vintage Gibson / Fender oldies and a Rickenbacker Checkerboard Bass. When I was a Rock n Roller, I always demanded my axes ride with me. If the airline wouldn't agree, I didn't fly and this is why! I can't quite fault DAL in this as it may have been a bag belt issue at the airport but someone SHOULD have minding the store. Still a shame this man lost a valuable instrument that he makes his living with. That instument will never play the same again!

Actually, it was in an elevator we use to send up/down gate checked bags on regional jet flights.

Why didn't he buy an extra ticket, for his guitar ?

Probably figured DL would f**k him like they did to the pax with the cello a few weeks ago?

Seriously, he probably assumed he could fit it in the closet like on M/L flights...

According to the article, he offered to buy a ticket but the agent said no. It's hard to say if that really happened, though.

If the item was so valuable I certainly hope he purchased insurance or had it covered under his homeowner's umbrella policy.

Stuff happens. Yes I understand this instrument may never be the same. But from the limited info in this article it sounds like he gambled that he could stow it onboard and he lost that gamble.

Now I'll bet he attempts to reverse the credit card charges he used to buy the ticket. More waste of time.

I am always amazed at customers who refuse to pay transportation/carriage costs as a negotiating tactic to settling a claim.

If you were involved in a personal auto accident but had not paid your Allstate premium do you think the insurance company would honor your claim?
