DFW will most likely close as a mainline hub. My guess is DL will remain there with the RJ's. SLC will be the interesting one.

This industry is in shambles. I hope that he cuts and minimal and impact very few. God Bless......

Word is the layoffs will be big. Entire MD-88/90 fleet gone. 737-200s gone. Pilot force down to about 5000 pilots.

What will they fly in short haul markets? The above represents approximately 200 aircraft. Hard to believe.

Delta wants to get mainline down to two aircraft types. That means bye-bye mad dogs and rust bucket 737s.

Delta will probably have 738s and 767s. If the 757s are kept around then they will go to Song, but that assumes Song survives (and if Jerry's recent comments have merit, then I think that will be the case).

Like AA with American Eagle, DL is very fortunate to have a good regional, like comair, to pick up A LOT of the dropped mainline domestic flts.

NH/BB's

I doubt the MD-88s are going. Delta is starting a Mod Line in ATL to completely redo the interiors; new colors, leather seats, etc. The 737-200's are a different story.

The 737-200's will definitely be gone. The 88's will most likely be phased out shortly thereafter. The fleet will most likely eventually end up consisting of 737-800's, 757-767, and 777's. Recently there has been discussion of looking for a 100 seat aircraft.

If you look at DL's financial statements, the MD80's/90's are largely owned and not used to secure any debt. Like AA, the MD-80 for DL is still a very viable aircraft but has no resale value so it is likely that they will be in the fleet for another few years. The 737-200s and -300s are on leases that expire in the next couple years and there are about 75 aircraft between those two fleet types which could be leaving.

DL does have enough older planes to have considerable flexibility should they move into acquisition mode. I can't help but believe that the magnitude of DL's changes will make DL very competitive financially and put them in a position to acquire to fill out their network, esp. if US ceases to operate - even for a short period.

Yes the MD88 fleet is not going away soon. The fleet is the first fleet type to be moded with the new interior. The protype is being done during an overhaul right now. It should be done in about 2 weeks. The next overhaul that Bay does will get the old interior with some minor changes while the protype package is reviewed. By the end of Sept all overhaul packages for the MD88 should include the full mod. A mod line is also going to be set up to change seat covers, carpets and other minor changes in the aircraft that will not be up for overhaul soon.

I haven't seen the mock up for the interior and the one in work isn't far enough along to see the changes so I can't give an opinion on the finished product.
