Not sure about ETOPS, I searched several places online.

W is for winglets.

blue, does WN use 73G for non-Evolve and 73W for Evolve 737-700s? Don't mean to sound pedantic, I'm interested as I know 73H is the official designation by Boeing for 737-800 with factory fitted winglets. Yet even though all DL 738s are winglet equipped, they use 73H to denote AVOD, while 73Y denotes non-AVOD (but still winglet equipped). Thanks.

I assumed wn uses 73W for the NGs (since they all have winglets), I've honestly never paid attention. To me they're either classics or NGs. My understanding is that 73G was for the -700, and 73W was for the -700 with winglets.

thanks for the info! very interesting the 700 holds 126 our 400s hold 12 and 132 for a total of 144

DL's 737's are not ETOPS equipped.

73W= 737-700 AVOD equipped. Seating: 12/18/94
738= 737-800 no AVOD
73H= 737-800 AVOD equipped. Seating: 16/18/126
739= 737-900 AVOD equipped. Seating 20/21/139 (online later this year, IIRC)

thanks kev and blue i did not know that the 700 n 800 are the next gen 733 n 734s kev where is dl planning to run the 900s too i suspect they have a lot more range

Kev, does DL no longer use 73Y code/designation?

Robbed, never seen US 734 at BOS, pretty sure it is an all Airbus operation. Are 734s in both East and West fleet? What routes do they fly? Have seen them in MIA before.

Josh

734s are all East planes, the West never had the 734, Piedmont was the launch customer for it.

well looky here... we have a board again....

There are industry standard codes and there are DL internal codes, some of which are only used to distinguish DL subfleets.

The DL 737-700s were purchased specifically for long-range small narrowbody, high performance ops - routes smaller than 757s but with range beyond a 738.

While DL's 737s may not have 180 minute ETOPS they were shortly used on ATL-Manaus and part of the reason for the extra range was because there are no alternatives for hundreds of miles over the Amazon so DL had no choice but to carry extra fuel in the event that MAO was closed, esp. important since ATL-MAO passes thru Venezuela.
While the 737-700s are also used on some domestic routes, including routes which have less competition and support higher fares, the 737-700s are best used for other South/Central America routes where fares are high enough to justify the higher cost.

Note also that AA has schedule their new A319s to be used on DFW-LIM which is a few hundred miles longer than ATL-MAO but shows that there is a market for long small narrowbody routes if the fares are high enough.
