NATCHEZ — Despite a recent report by a national news network, the City of Natchez has not requested $600 million from the proposed national stimulus package for a project.

Alderman Mark Fortenbery said he was watching FOX News on Wednesday night when a report came on about the national stimulus package and individual requests that have been made.

“They were talking about some of the crazy things people were asking for,â€￾ he said.

That’s when the report stated Natchez wanted $600 million for the Heritage Trails Project.

“I do not know who did that or where it came from,â€￾ Fortenbery said.

City Engineer David Gardner said he has heard about the report, and it is false.

The heritage trail would connect the system of downtown walking trails — the Natchez Trails Project — to the Natchez Trace by way of historic St. Catherine Street.

Gardner said it would be between one and two miles long and would cost approximately $3.1 million.

So who bumped it up? Natchez herself as mentioned in mayor "wish list" or bumped by some over achiever pork fed democrat on the hill?

WASHINGTON (Reuters)- President Barack Obama's aides warned Americans on Sunday not to expect instant miracles from the $787 billion economic stimulus bill he will sign this week, but said it would help eventually.
Sounds like he has zero confidence in his so called "Timely, Targeted, Temporary" porkulous bill.

Obama is due to sign the bill passed last week by Congress in Denver on Tuesday. It was the first major legislative victory of his young presidency, which could rise or fall with its success or failure.
His first major piece of legislation that was authored and approved by partisan senate & congress. First time in history for a president.

"There will be signs of activity very quickly," David Axelrod, the White House senior adviser, said on "Fox News Sunday." "But it's going to take time for that to show up in the statistics. The president has said it's likely to get worse before it gets better."
Another overwhelming mark of confidence. So why was this spendulus bill crammed down the tax payers throat at record speed???

Obama himself said last week that if he failed to heal the economy, he would be out of a job by 2012, when he faces re-election.
Thats an absolute guarantee...

I have yet to fully digest the stimulus bill (it is 1000+ pages). Prior to this bill coming to fruition I noted several key areas that, in my opinion, the fed/legislature were ignoring; most likely because they are difficult issues to grasp and conquer. Nonetheless, from what I have gathered thus far from the stimulus bill, I am a bit disappointed, and even more perplexed. Not to say that it will not work (I haven't read enough yet to make my conclusion), but there are serious issues in the bill that Americans may want to hold people responsible for.

We touched upon this in our conversation regarding John Adam's quotes. Fear is an instrumental tool and recently it has seen a resurgence in its use. President Bush used it quite effectively (whether right or wrong), and now Obama and legislature are using it (whether right or wrong). Fear allows things to be rushed and subject to less scrutiny until after the deal is sealed, giving the drafters of the deal much deference.

Seriously....do you have a link to the final agreed to and signed by the great one?
