While not a pilot, I'm giving the entire East operation 5 yrs to grow or clear out in senority. If nothing happens, Im moving to PHX. Hummm...let's see how welcomed my then 25 years will be to the PHX f/a's. B)

Which is exactly why Date of Hire was unfair to the West Flight Attendants.

If you were a Bottom Reserve on May 18,2005 why are you entittled to be a Blockholder in PHX on May 19th?

The fact that they were naive and aggreed to DOH when they joined AFA doesn't make it right.

sky high states: I love all these new interpretations of (earned) SENIORITY. The day you started working is when you started EARNING your SENIORITY. It's not only fair, its logical. You're reasoning about someone being bottom Reserve and transfering bases into a block position can HAPPEN REGARDLESS OF DATE OF HIRE. Many Flight attendants live in CLT and PIT, but choose to commute to LGA to HOLD A BLOCK. Same with PIT, hundreds commute to PHL to HOLD A BLOCK, instead of Reserve in PIT.

By your reasoning, the number ONE flight attendant at USAirways, she started in the early 1960's should be slotted next to the most senior flight attendant at America West, which dates 1983. You just SCREWED THE NUMBER 2 FLIGHT ATTENDANT AT U OUT OF OVER 20 YEARS OF.......SENIORITY.

date of hire!!!! fair and its in the by-laws!!!!

My goodness, anyone with that kind of seniority should have moved on by now...Ohhh Singapore Airlines..

More...Betty was hired in 1957. I flew with her a few days ago and she said that when she went to training in May, the West instructors said that they've been waiting to meet her all year. She had "eyes" on her all day...hehe

That's exactly how Nicolau reasoned for the pilots. That's what "relative seniority" means.

How? What does she actually lose in terms of bidding base, vacation, or schedule?

If you were a Bottom Reserve on May 18,2005 why are you entitled to be a Block holder in PHX on May 19th?

The fact that they were naive and agreed to DOH when they joined AFA doesn't make it right.
In this industry date of hire is the only way to go. I'm am sorry that I was flying on airplanes while you were toddling around in your pampers.

and now that you are pushing around a walker, a lot has changed since your day and this is what we call progress. Date of hire existed oh, about twenty years ago but now, at least in the professional pilot community, it is a relic of the past.

sky high states: The number TWO on the seniority list, AWA F/A with 24 years.........in this scenario, just recieved OVER 20 YEARS OF SENIORITY SHE/HE DIDNT EARN. I REPEAT DIDNT EARN.

I'm sorry you're too senile, immoral, or unethical to do the right thing.

Guess you should change this relic too!...."process of getting to the left seat".....now, THERE'S A RELIC.

SKY HIGH, At Virgin America, Captain positions will be "merit based." I guess a board comprised of who knows what, will look at you and decide? Who knows? This is the logical end to the loss of seniority as the sole basis for bidding. The slippery slope has been entered.
