I tried 30JUN-15JUL as travel dates. At Continental's website, the lowest available non-stop fare for those dates was $1393.00. They also show a connection to ALL Nippon at NRT for about the same amount.

When I went to Orbitz and put in ORD-PEK for the same dates, United's cheapest non-stop fare came up as $4018! CO showed an ORD-EWR-PEK routing for $1397. Air China is currently the only other non-stop carrier on ORD-PEK. They showed a r-t at $2994.

Is United getting that much money for the route? And, are they selling any tickets?

EWR-PEK round-trip is over 13,600 miles. Considering that at least $200 of that price is taxes and government fees, I'd hardly call a price under ten cents per mile "expensive."

Ua is selling gazillions of business class seats to China to corporate clients.

Sold out, all the time. Waitlist city. At damned near 50% of the published price for the big corporations. But these people are almost all the ones in those seats.

Considering how they treat the travel agents who (exclusively ) book those seats,
God help them the very second any other American carrier offers real competition.

Paybacks are a stinker.

And their disgust for UA and the hostile treatment on the phone is unreal.

It's not in the system because they don't intend to fly to Peking. Their new service is EWR to Bejing.

Peking and Beijing are the same city. The airport code is PEK for Beijing. If that last post was sarcasm then... sorry

As an FYI, Peking was renamed to Beijing. Still the same place. "PEK" is the airport designator for Beijing. Most people in aviation should know that.

I know this reply is very late, but Air China does not fly to O'Hare. They codeshare with UA on ORD-PEK.
