JetBlue will begin service to EWR 05OCT05, with 6-8 daily flights (total) to both FLL & MCO.

By the beginning of December, it will be a 15 flight/day operation, including service to all of the B6 Florida cities as well as SJU (the SJU flight will be a "redeye," leaving EWR at 2200, getting to SJU at 0300, and returning at 0400. Flight are loaded in B6 system, but not available for sale as of yet. Look for an announcement soon. This will be the first time PBI has had service to anywhere other than JFK, and it will be the third city from both MCO, TPA, and RSW (BOS & JFK). Many people had speculated that MIA would be part of this announcement, but apparantly, it is not to be (yet).

Additionally, B6 has had gate space at EWR for awhile, with their signage up in some areas since May (hidden).

Why EWR? Horrific bad ATC delays there. It sometimes takes longer to get to the runway from the gate then it does to fly the flight.

Couldn't they have found something better? BWI perhaps?

bad news for CO. If they think Simplifares was bad, just wait til they see what B6 does to their fares.

:rolleyes: My personal opinion, B6 is concentrating too heavily on the NYC markets....I'd actually consider it overkill! I'm sure Mr. Neelman knows what he's doing, however. ;)

I am probably wrong, but hadn't CO already matched the B6 fares out of EWR to matching cities? Just wondering..........
[post="281352"][/post]

It is likely, but probably only in very limited amounts. For example, AA matches jetBlue fares out of MIA, but they limit that fare to very, very few seats which often sell out very, very quickly.

Speaking of MIA...MIA was going to be part of this PR, but jetBlue much rather not bunch Newark and Miami into one announcement, because it is less press for them. MIA is launching in January, so the EWR announcement comes first. They will likely be using Concourse F, initially with 10 or so daily flights to 3-4 airports. Expect an announcement in August.

The EWR and JFK/LGA fares are considerably different. CO mgmt is undoubtedly doing major huddling today.

I would suspect they have seen this coming for a long time. I would expect to see a lot of 757's to Florida.

CO has posted their response: more flights, lower fares. No statement on the impact on their profitability but I'm sure it will be asked on one of the analyst conference calls.

Song flies out of EWR to Florida. Like LaGuardia, this is aimed at giving Song no place to hide, and CO is just incidental, I'd guess. The fares run $30-40 higher at EWR on average. And its a completely different customer base. Only a few people have the time and patience to schlep to JFK from NJ, with all the traffic. B6 will do well here, and after all, they have alot of planes they need to put somewhere--though how many of them are going to be lined up in delays at FLL is anyones guess.

Song only has 2 flts a day at EWR to MCO. For B6 to come in with 15 a day to numerous destinations, i would say they have a little more on their mind than just Song.

Here's that CO press release. Wonder if they'll take the DL tack of running widebodies on the extra legs to truly flood the market and drive B6 out.
