Life is about choices. They made theirs, now they live with it. Given the stellar economy I think they might be looking for a while. Flight Attendants have unique and specific skills that makes them very difficult to replace in large quantities in a short time. AFA can leverage that. Combined with a pending merger now would be the time to go for broke on a contract.

Comparing the Hostess struggle to US Airways F/A's is at best Apples to Oranges.

Sympathy is a waste of energy. What the 18,500 need is a job. Smypathy won't get them one job amongst them. I hope and pray that the Unions involved step up and help them. My suspicion is they won't.

You do realize that the roughly 5,000 F/A's under TX were in the position to do exactly what the Bakers union did. If TX stood ffirm you would have had the Airline version of Hostess.

Instead she got the very best deal she could under adverse conditions and still preserving everyone's (or most everyone's) job.

As to PBS some F/A's I've talked to are OK with it and some like it.

Incomprehensible? You must have short memory. Pre 9/11 employment as US was IIRC around 49,000 and over the last 10 years has declined to about 33,000. Now where I went to school that means that US lost 16,000 jobs.

Also there is no evidence that 18,000 families have no income as today most familes have two incomes.

If not for TX, US Airways would be the airline version of Hostess. Sometimes you have to live to fight another day which is what TX did and now that day is at hand.

Capitalism has winners and losers. 18000 lost due to a variety of reasons.

If you're not "making it" on an F/A's wages there is an entire free market awaiting you. A market where you will succed on your own merits.

A second point would be that you can'r/don't/won't manage your money well.

This year I will make less than half what you do and I have:

A Condo on Lake Minnetonka, and I mean about 50 yards from the shore not a lakefront view, I mean on the lake.
A very nice German Sports car (paid for)
No debt whatsoever
A monthluy "nut" that includes Rent, heat, electric, car insurance, cable, internet & phone that runs a mere $885/month. I live about a 1/4 mile from Kris Humphries (KIm Kardashian's ex) in a very nice town. It's not what you make sweetie it's what you keep. I keep looking for better work after beng down sized but honestly I'm doing OK and I blame no one for my lot in life.
