The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday issued a directive mandating "a repetitive maintenance task" for that model of airlines due to issues with its power supply. Specifically, the FAA explained testing revealed that 787s could lose all AC electrical power after being continuously powered for 248 days, a problem that -- if left unchecked -- would leave an aircrew unable to control the plane.

The chances of a 787 being being powered up for that amount of time are slim to none.

It's possible. The 787 does not like to be powered down completely. UA found this out the hard way. The airplane takes a long time to power up completely. It causes a lot of messages that take a long time to clear, causing a lot of delays. They found it was easier to keep the plane powered up on APU or ground power during lengthy ground times.

I'm pretty sure in those 200+ days that the plane will be pulled into a hangar at some point.

Yeah. But when you do you keep the battery switch on. This keeps the CCRs powered ( AIMs equivalent)
