The job postings for mechanics on Airtran.com require an A&P license and an FCC license. Does anyone know if they ever hire A&P mechanics without a FCC? Thanks, Brian

To answer your question: I don't know. I would highly doubt it.

There are so many A&P's on layoff you should have your FCC and a minimum of 2 years heavy airline line experience to compete.

With all that you can excpect a little less than $20/hour to start.

After 19 years in the industry and having gone through the scabfest at NWA...My advice...Find a new profession.

I now make more doing HVAC/CPDS/Fire Protection than I was making at the now scab airline.

Don't be intimidated by not getting an FCC.
FCC test 'today' (from what I have heard) is a cake walk.
Spend the $500 for a 'test structured' class and take the test.

I don't even think you have to know what a resolver is or how to operate a Simpson 260 (much less a Fluke 77) 😛 anymore.

Good Luck

I think that is the way it goes today. I got mine when they were only offered twice a year. I took it in an auditorium at some federal building with 300 others in downtown Atlanta. At the time it was a very tough test. There was a high failure rate for first time takers. There were 7 of of us from NWA taking it at the time. Only 2 passed on the first try. We were the ones who took a 6 month electronics course at Atlanta area tech prior to taking the test.

Wow, that was a while ago. 😱

Failed my 'first' because my TI-30 batteries died. 😛
You must be an old fart...
