When it became clear that a merger between US and HP was likely, knowing the AFA's DOH integration policy and the precarious situation they would be facing, could the HP flight attendants dump the AFA and sign on with the IBT, IAM, etc?

How long does it take get one union out and another in? If possible, it would appear evident to me that if the HP AFA Local truly cared about protecting its members, they would have pointed them in that direction. Just curious.

It Dosen't Matter..US East Has more F/A's and would Vote Any other Union Down!! Please DO NOT Rehash something that has already been settled!!

I have no dog in this fight. Just curious if this could have been a tactic used by the HP FA's in an attempt to improve their position.

On the other hand, if they did have another union, given the huge number of US FA's, could the AFA have attempted a staple job below all US Vol/Invol Furloughs?

I don't know the answers to these questions, so I'm asking. Purely hypothetical of course, so please keep your flippant comments to yourself.

Bigman... the AWA MEC attempted to change the bylaws but couldn't get even one other airline to vote for their proposed dumping of the DOH provisions. Dumping the language would have been suicide for AFA because UAIR and AWA were the second and third largest AFA carriers and UAIR would have dumped AFA had the changes been made as AWA asked. If AWA's agenda item had passed, UAIR would have dumped AFA, and with a much larger UAIR constituency, whatever UAIR F/A union was in place would have prevailed and AFA would have not represented the combined carrier.

By the way, UAIR has NEVER, through several mergers, stapled any flight attendant group, and even reinstated the seniority of a group of flight attendants that had been stapled in a previous merger before UAIR.

This issue has been discussed and argued to death!
