Just in case anyone is interested:

In an e-mail today the company says 746 flight attendants have submitted for the VEO.

What? Not 3000? Or, the 4000 that some of the supporters were estimating? Let's hope the rate picks up before the closing date.

Major Update!!! News Alert!!!

The number of f/as expressing interest in the VEOP has skyrocketed to 839! Keep in mind that the VEOP proffer does not close until September 20th. Not only can more sign up, these that have are allowed to withdraw their proffer any time until the closing date.

I expect that many will try to fit the timing into their personal plans, meaning they want the money but don't want to quit just yet. If that is the case, there will probably be some--no idea how many--that submit right at the end.

AA flight attendants are not known for actually reading their contracts or early out offers or their manuals. There are some who think that they can take the VEOP conditionally--i.e., I will take it and leave only if I get a departure date of (fill in the blank). The company has said time and time again that they will determine the actual separation dates, and if your name is still in the pot on Sept. 21st, you will be collecting the $40,000 (minus taxes and fees, of course), and you will be leaving on a date to be determined by the company.

So the proffer has been open for about 48 hours, and there are already almost 900 who've signed up? And there's another 12 days?...

Why is anyone really worried about this with more than a week left?...

Today's report has the number up to 901.

Well, maybe I'll be proved wrong. However, knowing some of the people that are taking it who are top-notch flight attendants, I'm not sure how many are people that the company wanted to take it. And, we're still quite a way from the 2300 position reduction that the company estimates will result from combining domestic and international--particularly since they are recalling the last of the furloughees. Don't get me wrong...I am thrilled that they are finally being recalled, but the number accepting recall will need to be subtracted from the number taking the VEOP to determine where we stand in relation to the 2300.

The number has been going up by approximately 100 per day, and I expect more in the last couple of days. My original guesstimate was 2000, and I'll still stand by that, but I'm hoping for a few more. I think we'll see newhires late spring or early summer.

Although more than $40k would be nice to have, it's not out of line considering that NW offered its FAs just $27k to leave in 2007.
