Well you can be sure that if the US Airlines retaliate, American will do the opposite. The US hasn't said what it will do but I suspect they will retaliate in some way.... ultimately, if it comes down to all flights to/from Europe, every carrier will lose equally. But it is clear that the mindset in Europe is that air travel is wasteful and destructive to the environment... and the UK has some of the highest taxes on airline travel among large markets in the world and taxes restrict demand...

Bet you have a lot of friends  :angry2:Screw Europe
 Hello! the rest of planet Earth calling
This is not an anti North American plot, but anti pollution plan. I applies to ALLairlines flying in Europe, including European Airlines
The USA drew worldwide criticism for failing to adopt the greatest international agreement for the reduction of some greenhouse gases, The Kyoto Protocol, which has been accepted by nearly every other country. This is despite the fact that the USA is by a massive margin the world's biggest polluter and very disproportionately so. The US administrations have repeatedly stated that they would not adopt such protocols if they harm American economy. Has commercialism and greed overcome all common sense and thought for the welfare of future generations. Your comments only show how blinkered you are.
Europe is making an effort in pointing the way, but the worlds biggest polluter just don't want to see it.

IIRC, cattle are really the biggest polluters, not airplanes. Maybe hamburgers should be taxed at the rate of air travel..... http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/cow-emissions-more-damaging-to-planet-than-cosub2sub-from-cars-427843.html
You sound like one of those at an "Occupy Wall Street" pig-in. Have you crapped on a cop car today? Hello! the rest of planet Earth calling

This is the equivalent of checked bag fees on a much grander level.
