SEATAC, Wash. -- The owners of several dogs returning from the prestigious Westminster Dog Show in New York say Delta Airlines lost their show dogs at JFK Airport.

One of those was a standard poodle named Paris. It was the responsibility of the owner's grandfather, Greg Gorder, to bring Paris home to Seattle on Wednesday.

But as Groder was sitting on Delta's 4:05 p.m. non-stop flight from JFK to Sea-Tac Airport, he and other show dog owners on the flight didn't see their dogs being loaded into the cargo hold of their Boeing-737.

"We suddenly realized our dogs aren't on there, even though the stewardesses were telling us they were," said Gorder.

One dog owner used his FlyDelta app to determine the crates of some of the dogs were not loaded onto the plane. The app allows passengers to track the location of their tagged luggage. The dog owners complained.

"We just wanted to establish that our dogs where still on there," Groder said. "They couldn't do it, wouldn't do it."

Show dog owner Sarah Pearce says the plane sat at the gate for an hour while the owners waited for an answer from Delta personnel about their dogs.

"Once they realized they couldn't find our dog and had no idea where they put him, we had to get off the plane and wait until they could find them," she said.

The owners were given the choice to either fly on without knowing where their dogs were or take a later flight with their dogs. All the owners with dogs not accounted for got off the plane.

"They didn't know where the dogs were, period," said Gorder.

I guess DL's "Pet First" program failed.... Maybe the owners should have used a company that specializes in moving only animals.....

once the dogs were checked in for the flight   they should have been held in a warm area such as make up  (unless of course its outsourced) til shortly before the plane departs     no reason why DL failed those peeps

We know that if this had happened on any other airline, the career forumist would suddenly reveal himself to be a card carrying member of both PETA and the ASPCA, decrying the inhumane treatment of such valued property as a show dog.

My guess is that the show dog circuit is small enough that DL's attempts at making things right probably won't overcome all the ill will they've earned from this.

But, DL's probably smart enough to show some humility, and not respond with sophomoric jokes.

no, the pets were not lost. You can repeat it a thousand times but given that DL specifically said the pets were under their care at all times, your lies evaporate in the light of the truth.

DL's error was overbooking the cargo bin of a flight with live animals. If he chooses, Kev can advise what DL's current procedures are but I absolutely know what they were in my day

The dogs were missing for over four hours. Thats the bottom line.

Passengers were onboard for an hour and the dogs couldn't be located.

They had to get off their flight as the dogs were missing for four hours.

Westminster show dog owners bemoan Delta for losing pets at JFK

The owners of Romeo, Paris and Leonard panicked for hours Wednesday, not knowing what Delta Airlines did with their pets as they awaited their flight back to the Pacific Northwest.

In those four hours, oh man, we went all over the place, Sarah Pearce, the 17-year-old owner of Romeo, told the Daily News. They told us they had no idea where our dogs were.

Five dogs were booked for Deltas 4:05 p.m. flight to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, but they were a no-show for takeoff. It got so stressful that three owners stayed an extra night in New York.

“We suddenly realized our dogs aren’t on there, even though the stewardesses were telling us they were,” said Greg Gorder, a man who had been tasked with safely transporting his granddaughter’s standard poodle.

“We just wanted to establish that our dogs were still on there,” Groder said. “They couldn’t do it, wouldn’t do it.”
Passengers complained that the airline then made a tepid effort to resolve their frustrations and instead assured them the canines had been loaded.

Show dog owner Sarah Pearce told KOMO the plane then sat idly at the gate for an hour while owners waited for an answer, after insisting Delta employees confirm the location of the hounds.

“Once they realized they couldn’t find our dog and had no idea where they put him, we had to get off the plane and wait until they could find them,” Pearce said.

“They didn’t know where the dogs were, period,” said Gorder.

The group reportedly waited for four hours before Delta finally delivered their distinguished furry friends. That’s when another owner, Jenny Dawson, found that her dog had actually been inside of cargo all along, and was en route to Washington… alone.

She was shocked when Delta delivered her an empty crate. “I was livid,” she told the ABC affiliate. “It was like, really, can you not look in there and see there is no dog?”

again, you can't accept that DL said the dogs were being cared for.

they were.

you aren't interested in the truth. You are interested in throwing dirt.

those dogs technically are not supposed to be out of the cage unless circumstances change.   or if its between 2 different temps   or if the flight is cancelled or delayed for hrs or so...      so the quest now is   why did the employee(s) take the dogs out  given that the article says an empty crate was given to the pax?      Of Course I don't blame the pax for being livid about being handed an empty crate
