With the fuel crisis going on, it is apparent that they will be cutting back on some things, including employees.

Do you think a lot of people will take a voluntary furlough?

What kind of incentives will the company offer for taking a voluntary furlough?

Who thinks they will be furloughed?

Who hopes to be furloughed?

Does anybody have a plan B just in case?

Incentives? I hardly think the company is in the position to offer incentives. . . maybe a lifetime standby pass 🙄

Furlough parties are the best. One of the best parties I've ever been to was a furlough/New Years party in 03. I think I still have stuff left over from another furlough party in 05!

I usually work for US for a couple years here and there and then take a year or two off lol... it's about that time!

Geez! They have not even announced any cutbacks yet! Relax! It is just a job!

It's about time for me too! This is the longest I have ever worked for an airline at one time. I don't even think I was working for the "old" US Airways for this long since I took a voluntary furlough in Dec. 01. I'm ready for another!

Pucker up 😉 Can you sneak me in one of those Furlough parties?

At FlightChic and I's payscale it is just that, a job. We are in the dubious but enviable position of being able to make more money doing almost anything else, in fact unemployment is only slightly less than what they pay is anyway. Plus, it's nice to not have to worry about someone calling you at 4am demanding you get to the airport in an hour to pick up people's trash. And you keep the travel bennies, not a bad deal.

From the UAL Board.

...if you are not frugal, learn to be. Pay off as many bills as you can and update your resume. If you are renting, now is the time to talk with your landlord and see if you can make deals to cut rent by doing odd jobs around the complex or at least a heads up on having to break the lease because you might get laid off. Get a roommate if you don't already have one to help with bills/rent/electricity. Learn how to sell stuff on ebay and start getting rid of stuff. It's no joke. Some people make selling stuff on ebay their second income.

When you have layovers, try not to spend money unless necessary. I fly with so many people who spend money like it's water, totally oblivious to the dire situation we are all in. Unemployment insurance is only for six months so start having an emergency plan. It's easy for me to say don't panic, but also be realistic. Best of luck to us all.

Oh come on...Let's have it overseas then it would be 18+ 🙂

We could have it in Cancun! Oh wait! That's not overseas according to management. They think that is the 51st state.
I swear I am not making this up!

Europe would be too much trouble.

We could have it in CLT! Or what about Miami! Or PHL at the TI! LOL!

perhaps not the majority...but, perhaps, just perhaps, there are some f/as who have secured supplemental incomes that enable the joy of flying to be fun, regardless of price.

so, continue to paint with a "black and white" brush...and, i will continue to spend the disposable income that usair is on my overnights.

Yeah, you should see how much I make from my web porno biz.

That post from the UAL board is a laugh. I've been furloughed twice, once for a year and a half, and I was not hawking VCRs on eBay or dumpster diving. The drama of it all. If you are a flight attendant, it means you have (or were able to fake for an extended period of time) basic customer service skills, and probably good "BS" skills, both of which will be helpful off the airplane. If you are made to fly only, there's the regionals.
