Gasoline up 100% under Obama

Interesting post. I bet if we really thought about it we could come up with half a dozen more.

Chrysler/Fiat comes to mind. Fiat is hiring for their re-introduction in the US market. Other than that I'm not certain how that is all going to work. Ford is kicking butt right now and it's not because they didn't take the bailout. Fact is they were poised for a turnaround and saw the bailout as a distraction with to many strings attached. Plus they have a strong leader and generally better Labor Relations,

Just look at the guy they put in to run GM. Couldn't pick a worse candidate.

GM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of the Board Dan Akerson.

Akerson is not and never has been a car guy. He himself said so. What is he? He is a DC-connected, Wall Street hedge fund big coin guy.

Akerson’s immediately preceding gig was Managing Director and head of Global Buyout for the incredibly inside-the-Beltway-connected Carlyle Group.

This hip-joined relationship with the federal Leviathan means Akerson’s a cardboard cutout for the real CEO of Government Motors – U.S. Treasury Secretary (and yet another fellow DC-Wall Streeter) Tim Geithner.

Which could mean very bad things for the US taxpayer owners of Government Motors.

Hedge fund guys are very fond of taking massive risks in pursuit of short-term profits. And that’s fine - when they’re doing it with their funds.

But as CEO of GM, he’s rolling the dice with OUR funds. Not nearly as fine.

Running a car company requires LONG-term thinking. Determining the right cars to design, make and bring to market is chess, not checkers. You don’t plan quarter-to-quarter or even year-to-year – you plan YEARS out in advance.

So why do we have a Global Buyout private equity guy – the king of day-to-day decision making – running GM?

Because this is Government Motors. Which means political decisions trump automotive business ones. And there’s an election coming up

And I'll wave to you, while your strapping that mattress or refrigerator to the top of your beamer, 'cause we hate when you people ask to borrow our trucks !

No need. Home Depot rents a flat bed for $20 for 75 min plus gas (no mileage) or for bigger jobs I can rent a Uhaul for a few dollars more. Most more cost effective than buying a truck for the few times it is needed by the average truck owner.

Well I don't recall gas reaching near $5 a gallon under bush. Ever. When prices started to spike Bush released oil leases to encourage more domestic output and as a result the prices dropped.

Obama is doing everything he can to choke off domestic output. So this spike in gas prices can be directly blamed on him.

In July, 2008, I paid $5.25/gal for premium at my local Chevron station in Los Angeles. Bush was President then. Yesterday it was $4.25/gal for premium. In July, 2008, the stations in Malibu, Beverly Hills and Brentwood had prices approaching $6/gal.

That said, there are millions of ignorant Americans who blame the President for such things like the retail price of gasoline. And I'm a lifelong conservative who voted for Bush and Obama. I blame Presidents for their policy choices when those choices differ from my ideology. I don't blame Presidents for retail prices.

And again.....................turning to government for all the answers...........................how socialistic of you !

As if our plutocratic perversion of capitalism has worked so well.

I still do not understand why people think of government in absolutes. I would rather take parts from various ideas and combine them. No single form of government is perfect. Raw capitalism has flaws.

Please provide some evidence to support this claim of people buying trucks and not using them for their intended purpose

I'm in the Midwest these days and there are a whole bunch of pick up trucks here. Some of which hardly ever leave the farm. Here they are WORK VEHICLES and this is true in cattle country as well. Now do some overspend and buy really nice trucks? Of course they do and they use them to haul feed to the Remuda for the Wrangler and fence posts and all manner of stuff. Out in MT & WY almost all the cowboys have PHD's (Post Hole Diggers) AND pickup trucks.

So enlighten me, exactly what say should you have or any government entity have as to what car/truck/horse they should own? It's called a "Free Country" not because the truck and gas are free but rather you as an individual are "Free" to chose the method of transportation whether it be an F-150 or a Schwinn.

For the life of me I'll never comprehend what makes the Left so afraid of an individual thinking and acting in his/her best interests and that somehow it's wrong or unfair.

I can no more prove people don't than you can prove that they do. I simply go by my personal observations. There are no/few farms in the DFW metro plex area. Trucks are merely a big car here. I can count on one hand the number of times I see a truck with something actually in the bed of hauling something each day. It's a joke. As I said above, I agree that there will have to be certain commercial exceptions where the use of light to heavy trucks is needed and justified. Soccer moms/dads are not one of those exceptions.

For the life of me I will never comprehend why people do not understand that the actions of another can affect the populace in general. You do not live on an island. Survival of the fittest is not the law of the land. Peoples insistence on driving gas guzzling vehicles makes us more reliant on the ME for oil. Just because you have the right to do something does not mean one should exercise that right.

Now don't you feel foolish for complaining? I remember my wife having to pay a little over $5 a gallon for diesel. It cost her over $100 to fill up her car (about 21 gallons if the light comes on). I'm glad she is not doing home health any more.

Just because you have the right to do something does not mean one should exercise that right.

Actually it means exactly that .My decision to act in my best interests is well within my rights as a US Citizens and neither you nor Obama Lama Ding Dong can change that. Whether I should or shouldn't exercise my rights if of no ones concern except mine.

Your rights begin where mine end. Lobbying for freedom oppressing laws that limit my freedom and liberty will always be challenged by Freedom loving people. Some words of wisdom from old TJ hisself.

Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (adminstrators) too plainly proves a deliberate, systematic plan of reducing us to slavery
Hmm Sounds like ObamaCare, Corporate and personal welfare schemes, unconstitutional incursions into foreign lands, CAFE, seat belt laws etc etc etc.

The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their destruction... I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity... is but swindling futurity on a large scale
Fannie & Freddie, The Unaudited Fed, AIG and so on. Funniest part of this is none of these entities existed yet somehow in between banging slaves he figured it out and he's right to this very day.

And I'll close with a personal favorite while noting that Barack Obama wouldn't make a pimple on Thomas Jefferson arse and for that matter neither would Bush.

A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement.

Presidential policies drive ups and downs on the Street right through and into retail.

Sounds like anarchy to me. I'll pass.

As a member of a society your rights have limitations.

I think you meant to say 'my rights end where yours begin'. The problem with that is defining what my rights are and what your rights are. I could easily argue that I have the right to breath clean air and that your use of a gas guzzling vehicle contributes to the bad air that I breath. You may not speed and endanger the lives of others because it is in your best self interest. Your not having insurance and hitting my car causes me pain, suffering and financial loss. Your smoking in public endangers my life by having to breath the air that you are contaminating.

There are tons of examples where government has over reached and it is the job of the electorate to say stop. In numerous instances they have not only not said stop but have invite it in for cake and coffee. In other situations, they have thumbed their nose at society and made the choice to do as they please without regard to the rights of others.

These situations will differ depending on ones point of view. I try and consider society as a whole when contemplating my actions.

I have always felt that money is the root of all evil.

Hey clueless, prices in DV are always going to be higher then other places. According to Gas Buddy its currently at $5.40 for regular at Furnace Creek Ca in the heart of Death Valley.

This just gets better and better. Now we have no less than Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration (with assistance) being called an anarchist. How charming that in the name of a few less pennies at the pump and a Government approved vehicle we have one of the Founding Fathers denigrated to an Anarchist.

It is however typical of the behavior of the Left. If you disagree, Don't Understand or it gets in the way of your agenda, resort to name calling, insulting and then attempt to assassinate the character of the individual. Sad however not surprising. I'm not to worried about Thomas Jefferson's credibility but it does give me pause to ponder if he is an anarchist than what does that make the current occupant of the White House? Horse's Arse was the first name that came to mind.

Never said Jefferson was. The above interpretation sounds very much like it to me.

You usually do not jump to conclusions or take things out of context like this. We have many who do that already. Please do not join their ranks.
