Goodbye JFK 777

===========================================================C'mon windler, I suspect that what 'Bears" meant was that with all the "constant" attention paid to ORD/ATL....ATL/ORD, that folks who don't live in the USA might think that those were THE MOST Important US airports.

Kennedy has MORE non stop flights to foreign country's than anyone !!!

Didn't NWA just recently pull out of the JFK-NRT flying? So tell me how brillant was that?

Recently NW stopped flying JFK-NRT because of fuel prices
as well as closing JFK cargo facility. Between the two
large number of ramp and agents lost jobs. Lot of
senior agents in cargo did not use option of bumping
to counter at JFK or LGA.

IS using a LHR slot for a 757 wise? If it was full of high yield traffic why not? Lufthansa uses 737's and A319 operated by Privtair with Business seats only from Newark to Munich and Dusseldorf as well as operating a JFK to MUN by A330, all 3 daily. A small plane can be a beautiful thing, like a sub-sonic Concorde. By your theory Concorde was a bad use of a LHR slot.

Delta doesn't have a LHR slot (nor did United sell them one). They have the right to fly into the UK from JFK. United retained the LHR slot and CAN use it from a different airport.

I guess that was directed to me. So to clarify, what was my "theory"? I was just asking a question.

Apparently, UA's JFKLHR service was NOT "full of high yield traffic." Hence its discontinuation.

Any word on where UAL will use it, or if they plan to lease it out?
According to an MSNBC story from a few days ago (and sorry, I don't have a link), Air Canada will lease the LHR slot pair (one arrival and one departure) used for the JFK-LHR flights for three years. But I haven't seen what the financial terms are.

It's true. This route has been a solid money loser for the last several years. UA has tried numerous things to try to lower operating costs and boost revenue. Unfortunately, with only having feed one on end (Narita), it was a tough road to hoe. Even the high business class traffic wasn't enough to make the route worthwhile. I'm quite sure IAD-NRT will be a solid performer.

FYI:

JFK is here to stay. The company just announced that the 320 and 767 domicile is staying!

Jetz,

Great news for you!! Congrats!

Thanks for all your help this week--sorry I missed Joe on the return.

Fly safe.
