Goodbye JFK 777

Wow, UA has completely abandoned the New York market at this point. I wonder if P.S. will continue to be successful without those flights out of JFK.

Or.....

Is this the first step towards merging with CO? That is two fewer markets (and major markets at that) where UA & CO compete....

OH PUH-LEASE.....!

They're not gonna merge those airlines.....

.....and I've been saying that for the last two years!

So,

...stby

Yes,...he has been saying that. Looks like he may be right. IF they were to merge, they would be forced to give up flying....instead, they sell it, retain the LHR slot which they can always use at a different hub, and make money. Win/Win

Sadly UA is killing both LHR and NRT from JFK. London was unprofitable but what about Tokyo? JFK to NRT was once a jewel in UA's Asia portfolio, Did AA turn it into a dog too. Once JFK-NRT had 5 airlines( JAL, ANA, UA, NW and Delta), now its 3( AA, Jal & ANA). I hope this isn't some precursor to a merger with say CAL many have speculated about.

They aren't killing anything. NRT is moved to IAD (which has the feed and huge hub worthy of such a route and the LHR slot is retained by UAL), besides, I haven't been to the 100 Yen store in ages. The only people this is bad for are the NY folks....oh wait, nevermind, they still have a decent airline to fly, AA!!!! Delta bought a dog from the pound.

MEEEEOWWWW!! 😛

Aren't we on the verge of an open skies agreement between North America and Europe?

I wonder if Delta bought a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge to go along with that route authority?

A deal between the US and the UK been on the verge for 15 years. They want to fly between US cities and we want more access to LHR and beyond rights.

Delta knows will be long time for a deal. Plus they have a out for paying the 2 million a year, if something ever did happen to happen

Wait a second, I'm getting confused.

As far as JFK(America's REAL airport), is concerned, does this(seriously) leave AA the following;

The ONLY US airline flying JFK--London "HEATHROW" multiple times a day(while CO/DL/NW can only fly into gatwick) ??

The ONLY US airline flying JFK/NRT ??

If this is so, I "L..iiiii.ke it"

As for UA, since they have really never been a big NYC player, then they're very wise to re-locate to an area where they are King(like IAD) !!!!!

Sounds like UA made a quick easy $$$$ "score"
(Why do I now keep thinking alot about PT Barnum) ?? 🙄

NH/BB's

What does that make the rest of the airports in 'murca? Fake? Mirages?

===========================================================C'mon windler, I suspect that what 'Bears" meant was that with all the "constant" attention paid to ORD/ATL....ATL/ORD, that folks who don't live in the USA might think that those were THE MOST Important US airports.

Kennedy has MORE non stop flights to foreign country's than anyone !!!

Coming from a NWA employee, whose airline has avoided competition of nearly anykind at DTW and MSP...

You should understand that capacity and number of flights are the keys to revenue strength and pricing power.

Nice to see you have returned to back up your predictions of UAL's demise, no one here has forgotten you and N by NW's big talk prior to your bankruptcy...

UA has had the same niche New York since the jet age, it added Tokyo( from (EWR & JFK) in 1986 and LHR , from both in 1991. UA turned JFK to LHR into a dog, they operated 3 767 through most of the 90's from Jfk to LHR. From EWR to LHR they flew a 777 in 1995 right after IAD.

UA should have done something unique and special. Those PS 757 they use from JFK to LAX/SFO, they should have lown them twicw daily from JFK to LHR. A PS configured 757 uses a lot less fuel then a 777. PS service across the Atlantic would have raised UA profile in the market, with very special service. Too bad no one thought of it.

Is a 757 with relatively few seats the wisest use of a LHR slot?
