Thank heavens that I drive a hybrid that doesn't take premium. But if it did...I could drive for 500 miles for about $50 at those prices. That ain't half bad...I've watched people in SUV's pump $80 at much lower prices, while I spent less than $30 to go the same distance.

I don't know if it's the top. IT could certainly force a change in attitude among those who feel they need an H2 for the daily commute (saw one this afternoon in the 'hood...one guy). I know that it hurts many who can't afford to put gas in the thing they bought...but if the market is saying $5, then that's what you have to pay. I do believe in supply and demand. I think prices now are finally catching up to demand. If you got an oil well in the backyard down there in Okie land, you're sitting pretty right about now.Im with ya bro, my little four banger ranger drinks regular just fine.
Ya think this is the top?
I sure as heck don't, nor do I care!![]()

Garfield...yes, it hurts. But while I am very liberal leaning, can you really have sympathy for the gal showing up for food stamps driving an '04 Suburban? Seems to me a lot of food could be purchased for what they are spending in gas. I'm all for helping those who need it...but sometimes I see folks driving cars far bigger, newer and nicer than mine showing up for WIC vouchers. Something isn't right here. I pay for my gas...I pay for all my food. If I wanted to drive a gas guzzler, I'd have to forgo something. And there are a lot of "low income" folks driving cars that make mine look like crap. The thing is that it hurts those who can least afford it worst. Newer more economical cars that are in decent shape and reliable are usually out of reach of the poor. Yes there are accords and what no out there with 200k on the ODO but they will need maintenance which the owner may not be able to afford. The older V8 gas guzzlers are going to be far more affordable in the short term which is only what some people can plan for. The supply/demand theory is also why we are seeing trucks for sale with $5k rebates and the like.
What the nation needs to be investing in is public transportation. I live 12 miles from DFW airport and the only public transportation that is near me is 12 miles away. That is inexcusable in this day and age. My wife drives for a living and thankfully her diesel ges 32 to the gallon but at $3.25 it hurts.
Im not so sure it will force an attitude change, I get blown off the pavement daily by gas guzzlers in a big hurry going nowhere. Seems like the whole world is in fast forward just to beat your arse to the next red light!
Anyway life's good down here in Okieville, c'mon in the waters fine!

I must have been ahead of my time. Back when gas was cheap and people were buying SUV's or cars like the Chrysler 300 I was chugging along in my four cylinder Saturn. Mind you I did not get it because it gave me a smug sense of superiority. I bought it because I knew simpler means lower costs and four cylinders are cheaper to keep fueled than six or eight.

"fixer",
Very wise.
Just curious. Anyone out there(especially those of you with knowledge of all things mechanical), foresee any type of gas hoarding for those with the physical(land) ability to do so ?

"12",
Any chance, you'll be installing a gasoline tank underground in FAI this coming season, for "HOARDING" ???

It's almost more of a psyhcological question as it is a logistical one. IMHO unless things get real bad I don't forsee people hoarding. Also it's not something most people can hoard very easily. You would need somewhere to store it. Unless you have a lot of land and somwhere safe to put it your out of luck.
On a side note I noticed that Brazil discovered a huge reserve off it's coast.
