slide popped on an emb170 in key west. NOT a midatlantic plane with mainline crews. guess they don't warn the replacement flight attendants at republic air that these planes have escape slides on them and doors that need armed and disarmed. WE know how to handle doors on big-girl planes but i guess usair doesn't want us anymore.

how many people had a ruined travel day for this one?

Oh heck, it's Key West! I say grab the beer from the galley and take the damn slide and turn into a boat for the day.

OUCH! True though. Maybe it was an honest mistake because they were checking seatback pockets.
for those who have had the "privilige" of flying on republic airways, if they f/as were more concerned with the doors, actually maybe they should be trained more on door safety than seat back security, republic f/as should be wearing tsa uniform, since they act as if their only job is making sure the seatback pocket is free and clear of tissue/magazines/ papers

Geeze,I heard that they popped another slide over there at Republic like just two weeks ago...

I cannot even remember hearing about even one MidAtlantic F/A ever making that expensive mistake.

How many slides did US Mainline Flight Attentants blow last year?

I dont know, but I'm sure we'd love to see the math of how many were blown in a year on 300 airplanes compared to how many Republic has blown in only three months with 20 planes. That should be an eye opener.

Paging Tempe...

I have little tolerance for Contract Carriers that deviate from the M/L experience [/quote]

I totally agree. We sell one product, not a hodge podge of products. Contract should be no different than Star Alliance, consistant! That's what we are selling....maybe some day

And how many of these slide deployments were chalked up to our "newly contracted" utility department? I know for a fact that last year there were several slide deployments from these people from opening doors that should have remained closed and armed.(A-321,757, 2L/2R-3L/3/R) It obviously has gotten a lot better but when they were new they really didn't know any better.

Even if he/she is a replacement FA, I feel very sorry for them. I know I would be BAWLING if I ever had the misfortune to blow a slide!
It can happen to anyone.
Since West has implemented the verbal challenge arrival procedure, there has not been ONE blown slide at the front doors. Thats in over a year.
2 or 3 on the back Airbus door where the FA is alone and does not follow the procedure. (talking aloud to yourself as you disarm the door)
Also, West did away with that 'locking pin' on the Airbus years ago, as it ads to the confusion, and dosen't help with the main problem of blowing slides.
I noticed it still in use on an East A320.

well.... rumors are that somehow the slide unraveld after the door opened.. if it blew while the door was being opened (armed) then the agent on the airstairs would have been severely injured or killed as it would push them back and down the stairs.

In regards to customer inconvenience, I know that the FLL-MCO portion was booked to 60, and they ran the FLL-LGA 715PM as a flagstop to MCO.

And I've heard that MDA blew a few slides in PHL and one in DC... anyone know if any of the other EMB operators have had the same issues?

A fully-loaded 757 bound for LAS had a slide blown in PHX by a mechanic last week. I hear the look on his face was priceless. Rampers do it. Cleaners do it. FAs do it. Union people do it. Rent-a-rampers do it. Everybody does it. I haven't done it. Not yet, anyways. Give me time.

This reminds me of a safety poster in a PHX ramp breakroom. There was an article about an AS aircraft that depressurized in flight because a rent-a-ramper whacked the plane with a beltloader (leaving a crease) and he failed to notify anyone. Some wag wrote, "Non-union fleet service at work!" on the article. Let's forget how people whack into engines, punch holes in planes with beltloaders, tear holes in bin floors, etc on a weekly basis in PHX. <_<
