On the Texas-Mexico border, Raul Faustino Reyes, 28, said he is one of the many immigrants wondering whether the relatively high pay in the U.S. is worth the hassle.

Mr. Reyes had just crossed into Ciudad Juárez from El Paso after working for two years in the Midland oil industry. He said he may not cross back into the U.S. after the Christmas holidays, as he has in the past.

"The coyotes [immigrant smugglers] are too expensive, the crossing is more dangerous than ever and the hatred is scary," said Mr. Reyes, who sent money to his parents in Chihuahua City to start a ranch. "The gringos will have a hard time without our cheap labor. I think they will see through their own hypocrisy."

Analysts who watch immigration trends say such anecdotal evidence is widespread, but there have been few scientific studies to back it up.

Well this "gringo" won't be shedding any tears for Mr. Reyes.

$50K fine for each instance of hiring an invader. (undocumented worker)
20% whistle blower reward.
Establish English as the national language.
Beyond life saving emergency room care, NO welfare of ANY kind to invaders.
A child born to a non-citizen is a citizen of the parent’s home country.

They’ll all leave on their own.
And good riddance.

Two often heard lies:
They take jobs no-one else will.
They work for lower wages than a U.S. citizen will.

I actually agree with the first part (except the language part). That ought to freak out Local 12.

As for the 2 ‘lies’. Could you please explain why immigrants are being hired if there are US workers who are willing to do the job at the same wage and in the same work conditions? Last time I checked, I did not see a long line of ‘americans’ waiting to pick cotton or other such jobs. I could be wrong but I would like to see a source proving it.

Let's clear up a few things here. Don't insult "immigrants" by calling ILLEGAL aliens "immigrants". They are scavengers who break many many laws and could careless how touchy feely Americans. Here's an excerpt from a recent article on illegal aliens and their affect on towns across America:

``We're becoming a Third World country,'' said Ringer as he took a visitor on a tour of a dozen squalid trailer parks that have sprung up in the town of 3,000 to house Hispanic immigrants. Chickens and goats roamed among the dwellings. Plumbing and garbage collection were absent, and Central American gang graffiti was evident on some buildings, while Mexican tiendas and panaderias dot the hamlet's downtown.

`Bottom Feeding'

``It's the bottom-feeding that emerges from illegal immigration, the slum lords, the declining education standards, the burden on emergency rooms, the increased crime rates,'' said Ringer. ``It wasn't like this 15 years ago.''

Furthermore, there are plenty of Americans who would work at ANY job, for a decent wage. (just like we did BEFORE the invasion of CHEAP illegal labor). THAT's how we built the largest economy in the world. We've never been too prissy to do any kind of work, and if you knew anything about Americans you would know that we are the most productive workers on the planet. (now that sounds like lazy to me)

And yes, your are wrong. Americans stopped picking cotton when machines took over, waaaay back in the 1800's. (assisted by the Cotton Gin in 1794 comes to mine) Nor are there any illegal aliens picking cotton in the USA (your veiled attempt to race bait by comparing illegal aliens to American Blacks is noted, and always used as a desperate attempt by supporters of the illegal alien criminals, as they are.)

Did not mean to equate immigrants with illegals. My apologies.

Race was not an issue in my mind when using the cotton example. Just the first thing that came to mind. I was at work and quite busy. The wage issue is the kicker. My understanding is that farmers have a tough time of it already and the the profit margin is not that great to begin with. If they have to pay higher wages, either they go bankrupt of the price of an apple goes up substantially. Not saying it's a bad thing but something would have to give. Same for lawn care, and all the other jobs that are currently done by the illegals.

Huh? Whether coming to this country illegally or legally, they are still immigrants (albeit the illegal ones are "illegal immigrants").

I think the fact that all these immigrants are coming to the U.S. and finding jobs is testament enough to show that they are taking jobs that Americans don't like or don't want. It is simple economics. If that was not the case, then the immigrants wouldn't be getting these jobs. If all else being equal, most employers would prefer an english speaking person who has ties to the community over a non-english speaking immigrant who may just up and go back to their home country on a whim. Thus, the fact that many employers are hiring these immigrants in record numbers signifies that they are able to get these people to do a job at a significantly reduced price from what they would have to pay an American. Or it could also be due to an increased effeciency with immigrants (perhaps they work harder than the pimply faced american boy) and, thus, hiring the immigrant would be a better value than the american boy.

It is also important to note that the employers hiring illegal immigrants may also be the type of employer who ignores the minimum wage. Knowing that illegal immigrants will not complain, they hire them because they can pay $1.75 an hour instead of $7 (or whatever the floor is now) to an american citizen. The "people" of the U.S. (through Congress ) chose that every worker should be paid no less than a certain amount for every job. So, the Americans will not (or cannot) take a job that is less than the self-imposed floor. This causes Americans to be "priced" out of the market for many jobs... of course, in many instances, it may be due to the employers not paying minimum wage.

I am not suggesting that one way is better than another in regards to illegal immigration, amnesty, or employer crack downs... I am just explaining that there is obviously a market for immigrants and that they are taking jobs that Americans either do not want, or not efficient enought at, or is paying below their standards. If that was not the case, then these immigrants simply wouldnt be able to find a job.

Even before House Bill 1804 took effect here in Oklahoma the illegals were packing up and moving on by the thousands. Im not sure how many have moved back to their native homes or have just moved to illegal friendly sanctuary states but the trash is still being picked up, trees still being trimmed, houses are still being built, fast food restaraunts are still open for buisness, etc....Just as NBN pointed out Americans did these jobs in the past and will do them in the future. Sure the wages may have to increase to draw workers, and yes the price will be passed on to the consumer, but at least our social services won't be stretched to the brink costing the Legal taxpayer undue hardship. I expect the crime rate will make a turn for the better as well and we may not have to build those new jails.

hasta nunca pendejos!!!!!

Well, if you want to get into semantics...they are CRIMINAL illegal aliens ( stated under US Federal law as it applies to a foreign national who enters this country illegally), when they entered the county by breaking the law. It does not state "illegal immigrants". So, therefore, under the law of the United States, they are illegal aliens.

"I think the fact that all these immigrants are coming to the U.S. and finding jobs is testament enough to show that they are taking jobs that Americans don't like or don't want. It is simple economics. If that was not the case, then the immigrants wouldn't be getting these jobs."

No..it is NOT a testament to jobs Americans don't like or don't want. It is testament that Employers hire illegal aliens because they undercut the prevailing wages in this country. If they were NOT here, the wages would be such that the jobs would be filled with AMERICANS...just as they were for the LAST 300 years. Employers hire them because they can cheat the American tax payer out of "employer taxes/prevailing wages , AND burden the taxpayer with other costs such as education, medical care, welfare.

Excuse me, this is a pretty ignorant statement "Or it could also be due to an increased effeciency with immigrants (perhaps they work harder than the pimply faced american boy) and, thus, hiring the immigrant would be a better value than the american boy."

If they were "so efficient" they'd be in Mexico building the most efficient and largest economy in the world...just like that pimply faced American boy built this one, LONG before the illegal alien arrived by the tens of millions!! Yeah...Mexico is a shinning example of "efficiency".

Based on your statement above, your knowledge of economics is clearly limited. You've contradicted yourself 3 times in the above statement.

It is a MYTH and a fantasy by individuals whom know nothing about the facts of the US economy to think that we would even notice the increase in prices such as 1cent to a head of lettuce vs. the burden of millions of illegal aliens. They contribute NOTHING to our tax base (they suck out and ship to Mexico alone $25 billion dollars TAX FREE a year). Their impact can clearly be seen in places like LA County, where there is an estimated 2 MILLION, as they slowly turn LA into the same squalor and slums of Mexico.

Now if you want more information on the statistics of RAPE, MURDER, VIOLENT GANGS, Drug dealing, (including 75,000 felony warrants in LA County alone,) and the other 'efficient" contributions they make in destroying cities like Los Angeles...I'll be happy to supply them.

I love it when people cite something when they have no idea what they are citing. You mention federal law. By federal law, are you citing the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996? I suppose you may have neglected to actually read the title of the federal law that significantly deals with immigrants. You can call them whatever you want... but you shouldn't harp on someone for calling them what they really are: immigrants, whether illegal or not.

Of course Americans would work the jobs. If a job needs to be done, someone will pay as high as wages as possible to get the job done. It appears however, that it many cases it takes a little less money to convince an illegal immigrant to work certain less-than-desired jobs (and as stated earlier, this may be due to a self-chosen pay floor by the American people). And Americans do not find those jobs to be appealing at those rates, or they would compete with the immigrants for the jobs. Again, that may largely be due to the minimum wage, but it was the Americans' choice to say that they will not do certain jobs unless the wages reach a certain limit. The immigrants don't always care whether that job pays as high as the floor, and that is why they are getting those jobs and why there is a market for illegal immigrants. With that said, for the last 300 years immigrants have always played a HUGE factor in our jobs and economy. In New York's history it was a lot of Italians and Irish that took jobs at the lower rates.

Also, as mentioned in my previous post... I am not supporting this issue from one way or the other. I am not saying that our economy would be worse off if we took the immigrants out of the workforce. Obviously, the illegal immigrants often contribute nothing to the tax base, but are a significant burden. But I will not pretend that there isn't a market for cheap labor that Americans do not compete in, either by individual will or collective will through the minimum wage.
