Whats the possiblity of Airways getting some kind of seatback entertainment a la JetBlue or Song? I just rode on Song recently and I must say I was really impressed with the touchscreen entertainment in the seatback. You had a choice of Live TV, over 1000 MP3's with customizable playlists, multiple movie options, shopping and a sweet trivia game where you play against the rest of the airplane ( the guy with the handle of "M" in 23A was kicking my ass)I was shocked that there were about 25 of us playing agsinst eachother. They never shut it off either. The TV didnt work on the ground but we played trivia from the get go.

not a chance . cost too much to install. and plus, both airlines that did this are either in bk or losing money.

Funny US announced they would upgrade the IFE upon emergence from chapter 11.

More empty promises.

And having IFE or not is not what caused any airline to file bankruptcy, because there were/are more the filed chapter 11 or 7 that did not have IFE then had.

There is no logic to IFE causing bankruptcy or money losses.

that was seigel who announced that in that sob story video he put out . what do you expect.
i am not saying that that was the cause of them going into bk or losing money . i am just saying that we really do not need it and it costs to much money. stop trying to f##king downplay everything i say.

My in seat entertainment is my I-pod. Doesn't cost the airlines much either.

That's his job on this board. It makes him feel superior.

IFE systems do cost money and create monetary losses. Cost of equipment, cost of maintenance, etc. And it adds weight which increases fuel burn. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

How long was B6 making of profit for?

Six years, I believe.

So why were/are NWA, UAL, US (twice), DH, ATA and others in chapter 11 and they did not have the IFE systems like B6 of DL?

Was it not part of Wolfs plan to have inflight monitors on all of the planes that would remain in the fleet? I think it is a great idea. You have a captive audience where you can promote your product and services. Many people still dont know as much about US as they would by promoting the company and its services using the inflight system. People are more likely to pay attention to TV monitors with images, music and perfect tone of voice to promote the airline, than they would a flight attendant over the PA system.

I have worked at both AirTran and another airline that had PVT;s....

they break/mess up/ then as a flight attendants we get yelled at cause they purchased "THIS SEAT"....

I like not having them some times/and other times I wish we had a route map..... ?

But yes.. the are poz/negs... all depends on is it worth our MONEY TO pay for it...... ????

It's only a PART of the equation. Never said it was the sole reason/factor. There are more than one way to look at things and many pieces to the puzzle. It could be a contributing factor.

It's only a PART of the equation.
And a very small part, at that....

Song was a small part of DL's operation, and the IFE was a small part of Song's costs.

B6? Well, if the IFE was part of their troubles they're in for really hard times - they're one of the bidders on frequency spectrum that will allow both internet and phone service inflight. I believe the FCC auction is today.

West has been doing this for the last couple months on every a/c w/video, and trust me, it is VERY annoying.
