>> The IAM saved some mechanics' jobs by retaining the right to push back planes as they prepare to take off. At most other airlines, lower-paid fleet service workers do that job.

And yet some people still wonder why US has the highest CASM in the industry. It is inefficient rules like this that contribute to the problem.

CAT111 - Pilot pay is capped @ 85 hours a month, Jed's Jet was @ 100 hours a month. This is pretty much fiqured by the F.A.R.'s and our pilot group being capped the highest in the majors with most majors being 75 - 80 hours a month. Something the pilot group has always had was the flexibility to have a 78 - 85 hour line a month .

Maybe R&D is a reach in todays airline market but it does save jobs. For the junior guys it's important.Maybe in the future if and when everyone is back from furlough and the company is growing it could be traded for something else of value.

Pilots can only LEGALLY fly 100 hrs/month, and only 1000 hrs/year. Take that 1000 and divide by 12, you get 83.3. That's how they got the numbers. Flying that amount means actually working and being away from home and your family for up to 18 days (and nights) a month. Pilots only get paid when the plane is off the gate. If mechs, agents, etc. only got paid when it was on the gate they would understand.

That is true, but pilots should be required to be on the property 40 hours a week, just like the rest of us cockroaches. Even if its cleaning the toilets.

If I were a pilot I would be more worried about being stapled to the bottom of another carriers seniority list then how the mechanics vote.Wolf is probably working on the deal now.
