What's new

ITS TRUE !

While it is great news that we are getting new a/c for expansion I doubt they would be able to use our current fleet of 757s' from the east side due to the fact that we don't have ovens on them in coach. I know that may not seem like a big deal but to add ovens to the back galley would be easier said than done. Where US west has their ovens on their 757's in the back we have the swing up compartments filled with soda's. Can't use genie trays "thermal trays" to europe. We have to many service things to do before even serving the first meal. Not to mention no chiller carts to keep the breakfast or arrival snack cold. I'm sure redoing a galley on an a/c is pretty expensive. Man do our 757's on the east side need it bad though. Did anyone else catch in the response in "about us" that the company said they are looking into other a/c as well for expansion? Quite interesting.

Never say Never......Those "genie", "aladdin", or better yet "dog dishes" used to be used on the 57's on Transcon flights, what's to say that all they would have to do is alter the T/A service for the 757.....it can be done! I'm pretty sure those plastic nightmares are sitting in some warehouse just waiting to be dusted off! Who needs chillers, in the past before the Airbus came along, USAir was famous for wrapping ALMOST EVERYTHING it boarded for service in DRY ICE and SARAN WRAP! I'm sure you remember those days spending half of your flight unwrapping everything on a preset tray including the tray itself! I'm almost positive that's why we had a "galley hag" on the 57! HA!

Are any of Continental's 757-300s ETOPS ready? Do they currently use them on any transatlantic runs? I know they use the 752s on some European services, but I don't think they use the 753. I'm assuming that TZ's 753s are ETOPS ready, since they use them for MAC charters.

The 753's that Continental got from ATA are ETOPS qualified, the 753's CAL bought are not. The 753's carry the same amount of gas as a 752, which means with the extra weight, their range is more limited. DUB/SNN is about the only feasible route for a 753. CAL is not using the 753 across the North Atlantic.

Don't be disappointed if you don't see them change out the galleys. Maybey for Envoy, but with HP history, there are very little changes ever made to the cabin when a 2nd hand aircraft enters the fleet.

I AGREE the dog dishes are on there way back.....Customer Service Whats that

Oh please, oh please tell me I won't have to strip meals like we did in the past. I can't stand those things. If I have to go back to stripping..... cough cough...meals that is across the atlantic, well i'll just. Oh wait, I can't hold those trips now that the fence came down. Oh well if we must we must.

Those acclaimed "Dogdish/genie trays" are no longer company property. I was told they were given to Massport up in BOS to use in the landfill to "shore up" the area needed to build the New Terminal "A" where Delta operates. Since the American Kennel Club didn't want those disgusting pieces of sh*t, they had no other choice BUT to B-U-R-Y them!

Well if the company is looking to save money they will probably keep the galley set up the same as they were when ATA had them. With all the long journeys those a/c made I'm betting they have ovens already there. If I didn't see those nasty trays for eternity it would be too soon.

NOTE: ATA does NOT offer meal service of any kind near as I can tell. So it's very hard to imagine much in the way of Galley equipment on board. US willl have to re-configure the A/C in order to have some continuity of look and level of service.

Good Post but.....

Everyone is assuming that this mgmt will upgrade for envoy levels of service.......Think LCC quick hop across the pond minimal service........and remember ASSUME...ASS out of U and ME

I used to fly for ATA, the 757's have ovens in them, we used to fly them all over the place. I've flown them from ANC-NRT and NSY-KUW. Actually the galley in the aft is nicer than what we have on our East 757's. Pretty much the big difference is that there is no coat closet in the front, the lav that we have at 2L is back by 3L/R for a total of 3 in mid cabin and the jumpseat near the 2 doors is actually A/C right at 2R. That's pretty much it but I do have to say that the galley in the back is pretty nice and actually has the capability of doing Trans Atlantic service. I've crossed the Atlantic and Pacific on those 752's on several occasions and they are more than capable of doing what we may have planned. Well rumored to have planned anyway.

Why do you keep referring to me as DJ? I don't live in Pittsburgh but do commute to PHL from the west coast. I think you have me confused with someone else. I was not hired in 96 either. Why would you appologize for your seniority? Dude, your losing me. Anyway....I was right about the whole airport bs that USAir demanded back in the day. The county NEVER wanted the terminal the size it is today. They knew Pittsburgh didn't have the population but USAir then had big heads and big dreams yet kept that puddle jumper vision. If US does pull out of PIT as you claim....I'm sure the city would just turn into gotham city and die off and just become a wasteland. NEVER HAPPEN. Again I live on the West Coast so you DON'T know me. Sorry man.

So can anyone confirm that GLA will become a 757 route?

When I checked last week, US did not hold slots at MXP, ARN or LIS. GLA was still listed a 767 for the Summer.

Also, if it does go to a 757, will it go year round?

Gaz

Why do you keep referring to me as DJ?

That's an easy one Mr. DJ--everyone knows that TP72 ROCKS!

DJ put a record on
I wanna dance with my baby

Do you like to
Boogie woogie, do you like to Boogie woogie,
do you like to Boogie woogie, do you like my dancing

Hey Mr. DJ put a record on I wanna dance with my baby
And when the music starts
I never wanna stop, it's gonna drive me crazy

Music, music
Music makes the people come together
Music mix the bourgeoisie and the rebel
