Answer;

US Airways just started to sell advertising on these type of bags.

Question;

What are barf bags?

It got a bit of a laugh from the studio audience.

Yup, and it brings in revenue without taking it from my pocket again, so who cares? I say go for it. It's a barf bag for gods sake...

Any company besides US itself advertising on the bags yet? I don't see any company jumping on it

i for one don't want to see

A :someone barfing
B: an add for dell computers while they are barfing ..

I remember flying someone back in the 80s or 90s that had barf bags that could be used to ship to a photo developer. Just slip the film in the barf bag and wait a week for your vacation photos. Was it United or Southwest? Nobody complained then but is sure is a big deal when we do it.

I don't think it would be bad to advertise on the bag. I also don't think it would be a big deal if it weren't for the the fact that the advertising is comming from so many directions that it's a bit much. I'm all for the company making money and not wanting anymore of mine (not that theres much left) but there has to be a point of saying a limit has been reached with cabin advertising. Any talent out there to bring revenue in someplace else? Hmmm I'm thinking NOT.

Ok, so let's hear your ideas for increased revenue. Ticket prices? No. Paid FC? Nope. Charge extra for window/ aisle seats? Doubt that'll fly....

I cannot understand why people are so offended by the ads. The majority want absolute cheap travel, that is a fact, and the $$$ have to come from somewhere to subsidize this.

Cabin ads: Tray tables and barf bags. What am I missing? Where is the huge intrusion?

If the company pays its employees a decent wage and has a decent product for us to offer our passengers, they can paint the dam plane any way they want. Unlike many, I realize the environment we operate in today, and while I agree our product is cr@p, I see no problem with ad dollars coming in at all. It's not offensive, it's reality, plain and simple.

Time will tell I guess, but sending a clear message to the CEO about trash bags and pies makes us look foolish and silly.

Let me know if anyone needs a list of questions should they find themselves at a Crew News Session one day... :lol:

I should know better than to attempt to drink any type of beverage while I read these threads. I not only choked, my iced tea wanted to exit through my eyes! That was too funny. :lol:
Well make the next one a Long Island Iced Tea, because my co workers here are quite upset about the current selection of trash bags and desserts. It's devastating. Simply devastating.

Ya know, I don't think there would be such an issue with the advertising we see today but we see other carriers that don't resort to it to make a profit and THEY(some) are doing ok without it. It's a combination of the advertising, product, PRICE (definately not always low), a/c appearance, etc. Just the overall passenger experience here sucks plain and simple. Management knows it, we know it and our passengers know it. When you run an operation that other airlines laugh at, I mean really. We DON'T make decent wages and we DON'T have a good product. It is below EVERY competitor we are up against. Riding on the plane is like sitting at the movies and you like the previews but after the 5th your pretty much ready to get to the film. It's overkill anymore. Saving money on trashbags, free pie, is this what our "Top Talent" is comming up with? I agree that OTHER pressing issues need to be addressed but all the small ones add up to a crap experience that YOU and I have to shrug off and say sorry for all day. It's a little old now. I also am sick of folks on the west who say we whine. Don't tell me to lower my standards and accept anything less than what we had before. We were close to crap in product before the merger now it's almost laughable. There is NOTHING wrong with banding together and demanding better for our contract (most importantly) and our customers experience which involves us as well.

First off, I do not sit there and apologize for USAir's continuous fumbles. I try to make the experience a positive one, but I certainly don't apologize for the buffoonery.

I realize fully that our product sucks, our planes are disgusting, and we are simply at the bottom of the barrel. No one is questioning that in the least. My point is just that if we can make money with ads, cheaper trash bags and motel 6 pies, who really cares? We *could* still have a decent product with those trash bags, pies, and barf bag ads. These things, I feel, have nothing to do with the fact that our product bites. You can generate a lot of revenue with ads (and pies i guess), and to me, that is separate from the fact that they cannot run an airline with any consistency or class.

Until the day of $600 PIT BOS and $1200 PHL LAX fares return, the ads will come, and more carriers will join in. Start to deal with it.

Again, please understand that I agree the USAir experience is misery right now, and if we can squeeze $$ from areas (ads and barf bags!) that will allow us more $$$ to withstand a downturn, invest in our product, and pay our dam employees, then I am all for it. Let's just hope that they do that. That's why someone shouldve asked Douglas where that $200,000 trash bag saving is going, instead of whining about the bags themselves.
:blink:
