Hey - I am 22 and live in Houston, TX. Any one know how I can start a career with CO? Or even WN?? Something non-frontline (non CP/FO/FA/MX-tech/ramper). I have an accounting/administrative/government-regulatory background, esp. with Asian trade.

Anyone know of anything/ways in?

Thanks much,

new member,

You should go to the Careers section of their website. If nothing is posted, send them an application/resume/cover letter. Applications are usually available online or at the ticket counter. Good Luck!

Thank you for the tip!

I applied via the CO website a few months ago for a position in the spares center at IAH. Even though IAH is a 45 minute commute to my house, I am willing to do it just to break into aviation. I never heard back from them although my work experience makes me more than qualified for the job.

I am wondering if anyone lurking around these boards has an "inside knowledge" in the Houston area. I would LOVE to get in with a major carrier (for non-reving reasons and advancement reasons). However, I think I would enjoy a career with a private carrier (getting a ride in a Gulfstream IV would be the best benefit any job could ever give me, even if it's just one ride to nowhere so to speak.

Any ideas folks?

You will like the folks at Delta at HOU - they are a fun group...I dont know any of the management folks there anymore as they have all left...
Not sure if you are aware but the ready reserve positions have no medical insurance, work approx 2days per week and while you can non-rev you are limited to 15roundtrips per year for free, after you use your 15 roundtrips you are entitled to yield fare travel and your travel on other airlines are limited based on agreements since you are not considered a part/fulltime airline employee...the best thing is you will have your foot in the door and will be eligible to apply for other positions within the company as in internal applicant and can move around if you wanted too...
Good Luck!!!

EXACTLY I actually grimaced when I saw "ready reserve." However, 15 RT/yr is plenty for me. I can't see myself non-reving more than once per month. I realize this is a crappy place to be (ready reserve) but maybe it's a key to growth within DL or even the greater industry.
