The TWU sells the illusion of democracy to its membership when in truth it fears democracy. The TWU successfully foiled the memberships democratic right to select representation, the TWU "won" for the membership the right not to have a choice in representation and spent tens of thousands to do so. The TWU regularly appoints its International officers without any input from its membership, in the local 514 elections candidates for change were shunted out of the election process or where involved in an election in which all the incumbent e-board members were reelected even though you could not find more than a handful of people in the hangars that would admit to voting for any incumbent. There is nothing democratic about the TWU. The TWU is a cancer that has been forced upon us. They want you to think that "you are the union"-what a joke. Democracy at the TWU is nothing but a charade the TWU feels obligated to participate in from time to time. What a farce of union!
My only hope is that someday they become absorbed by a real union.

Illusion of Democracy?

They have appointed Officials for years and successfully argued in Federal Court that the TWU Consitution does not require membership ratification of changes or amendments to the Labor Agreement.

The only Illusion that I see is the membership's unwillingness to face the facts and do something about it. Of course given that 5 years was spent obtaining enough cards to remove the TWU from property only to have the NMB, AA, and TWU steal that right, I can see why.

The crazy thing about our situation is that the membership doesn't support the TWU at all, yet the leaders live a fantasy that this is not really the case and pretend to be a strong united front.

When the Union on the property is only there by illegal default, the membership can never expect to make significant gains in negotiations. The compAAny knows the disdain the members have for their union, and chuckles quietly as the next slogan bearing t-shirt comes along.

Appointed Leadership is now just a very small problem the dues payers of the TWU must learn to live with as the charade continues on with Jim Little and his gang of dictators pretending to be a union and pretending the members have one ounce of loyalty to their sorry asses.

The TWU is no longer a union by definition, the TWU is simply a Dues Collection Agency only on the property by coercion and flawed legal means. There is no support for the TWU. The members now know the elections allowed are rigged.

A simple question has to come to mind when discussing the TWU.

If very few, and I mean not the majority of the members that are required by law to pay dues choose to still blindly support the organization, while most dues payers do NOT support the scam, then can this organization really be called a "UNION"?

After reading the letter I noticed the overinflated staff associated with the twu. The appointed in the margin to the left of the text on the letter. It reminded me of the management at AA. Overstaffed and overpaid.
