Last commuter rail bar cars in US to be retired

Possibly slightly more ironic than that... the new Boeing Building in Chicago sits on top of Union Station.

I've taken trains all through Europe. Best way to travel short to medium distances. I have not had the opportunity to take one in the US yet. I wanted to take one fro DFW to LAX or SAN but last time I looked it was a 24 he plus a fair and it was over $800 or so per person (might have been for two). Either way it was less by air and far quicker.

I would've to take ride on one of the big steam locomotives still I service. I saw some tv show on one that makes a run up to some rodeo some where on the west coast. There is a museum for trains in Dallas that I went to a few years ago. The size of the steam engine is just insane. I am 6'3" one of the main drive wheels was my hight.

The rodeo run you're referring to is probably the Denver Post special that runs up to Cheyenne for Frontier Days (mid-July).

Tickets are sold by lottery which is only open from May 4th to May 18th this year. $315 each if you're selected.

You might have better luck getting on the Durango to Silverton -- two or three trips a day depending on the time of year, and incredible scenery along the way. We've done walk-ups on that one (reservations help, but there are sometimes seats available as long as you get there early in the day). It's also more affordable.

That sounds familiar. I did not know it was a lottery. After my wife gets her RN license we might look into something like that. I heard the Canadian trans con is supposed to be a very nice ride as well.

I drove a train one time. It was in a glass plant. It was used to move supplies inside the factory. I even got to blow the whistle.

The train museums look great! I've also taken the Durango/Silverton train.
Lots of beautiful scenery. Try and find seats on the right side of the train for
incredible canyon views. Sometime I would like to take the AMTRAK Cascades train
from Oregon to Vancouver, B.C. I've heard that's pretty awesome. That one
is on my bucket list as well as the museums. 🙂
Happy Traveling…
