Lautenberg Leads Bipartisan Group of Senators to Push for Restoring Airline Employee Pensions

“The Federal government shouldn’t allow a company that dumped its pension responsibilities buy another,â€￾ said Lautenberg. “US Airways should take care of its employees before taking over another airline.â€￾

I hope he is successful but I doubt the Republicans will ever allow that to happen! <_<

the Republicans are not in control any more.

And it doesn't really matter who is in power. The PBGC will make its decisions based on market facts, not politics.

Perhaps, but the tide may be changing. The Democrats have been sent to Washington for a reason.

They were sent to Washington for no other reason than the growing discontent in the Iraq situation. If you remove Iraq from the equation in the campaigns last Fall, the majority would still rest with the conservatives because our economy, unemployment, growth, etc. are all very good compared to any period in our history.

Funny you mention that.....They already are saying everything from Apples to Oranges is Fu**ed up.

Hope PGBC/US Gov't sticks it up U's butt big time...

This is, and sends a powerful message! I think U will have a hard time merging with any larg carrier.

Why?

Because they just can't be trusted! They dump pensions, used the bk system to get an "advantage" over their competitors, and now want to gobble up the compeititon.

How much money do they have after taking $2.5 billion from their employees per year and dumping all the pension plans...in the mean time, back at the OK corrale, the execs still rake in millions in bonus money during 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.

United will have the same difficult time as well for using the same "play book" ast U.

Sen Franklautenburg is a Liberal Democrat from North Jersey.

From his web site:

After graduating from Nutley, Lautenberg enlisted and served in the Army Signal Corps in Europe during World War II. Following the war, he attended Columbia University on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a degree in economics in 1949.

With his military service completed and his education secured, Lautenberg set out to build a career. He joined with two boyhood friends from his old neighborhood to found the nation's first payroll services company, Automatic Data Processing. Lautenberg served as chairman and CEO, and along with his partners developed ADP into one of the largest computing services company in the world.

Looks like another typical grandstanding "Limonsine Liberal" to me. He cashed out of ADP, looked around for something to do got into politics and said to himself, "HMMM Liberal or Conservative, Republican or Democrat??" then he looked at the demographics in New Jersey and decided "YEPPER I'm a Liberal Democrat"

Or, maybe he sees the injustice to the working class folks in the airline industry, or is this view just simply impossible for human beings to contemplate?
