Competition from Lcc's has contributed greatly to the steady decline of the airline industry,an industry that at one time was considered to be a great place to work in with decent wages and good benefits. But things have changed as we are all well aware of. All of the Airlines have been affected negatively and have taken the steps necessary to remain competitive and survive. But have we done everything possible to fend off these Lcc,s or does there still remain other options? The fare increases we have recently seen are a step in the right direction. Together we can defeat this vermin and return to the "good time$" we once knew. Lets do it.

Yeah, man let's do it! Let's kill 'em all!

However, raising the fares helps how, since the LCC have also raised them?

I think he was supposed to be speaking at some skinhead rally, and he ended up here by mistake. Please forgive him/her for not making any sense.

Red Tail Bear,
Yours is one of the most uneducated posts I've ever read. You direct your hatred toward LCCs, yet even your airline is striving to become one. Blame the market and the consumer, not the provider of supply for the defined market demand. Your yearning for a return to the "good times" (as you define them) is as likely as the great sail ships retuning to replace the diesel merchant ships. Ain't gonna happen.

C54Capt;

Perhaps you may want to rethink your assessment of RTB's post.
Here's why.

Sure, NW has lowered some fare, but has raised them as well. In anycase, the likes of F9, B6 and Air Tran will never bring BIG RED down to their LCC levels.
WN is the real deal, but There must be a valid reason that WN avoids MSP, like the Bubonic Plague. AND, I don't we "wal-mart with wings" "lighting the world on fire" out of DTW.
I interpet RTB to mean, that as much service and tactics as possible, from the "good ol' days", along with JET A $$ prices, will keep AA,NW, and WN as the ONLY carriers NOT "kicked out of the pool", a position that I've stated EMPHATICALLY on every board, that NO ONE has proven me wrong on yet.

Like everything else in this Lunatic Asylum Industry that we work in, worked in, or follow, only time will tell !!

Allow me to agree with you to a point.

No, I don't have a Industry Crystal ball hidden in my cellar, but certain things, about certain carriers are somewhat predictable.

I mentioned AA, NW and WN.

In reverse order, I'll start with WN, the easiest of the 3 to read.
WN, just by their "uninteruppted" earnings, speak for themselves, especially during vicious times like this.

NW,
After reading through NW's EMT/IAM contract(I have a copy), I was really surprised to see how much CO language was written in the NW/IAM contract.
IMHO, should the #### REALLY hit the fan, CO, who in my opinion, has been "A house of cards" financially, for YEARS, GORDO, or no GORDO, will jump in the sack with NW, in a new york minute, no matter what the demands(by NW) are

Yea, Yea, I know ALL about the fleet UN-commonality between NW and CO !!

If NW and CO route systems are combined, there virtuall would'nt be a spot on the globe that they could'nt compete in.

AA,
AA does'nt care much NOW, about CO, or NW. So a combination of those 2 make no difference to AA.

AA would pluck up a bunch of "sweeeeeet" assets from the "deceased" US,UA and DL.

Did someone say, "Well mabey AA would be on the deceased list" ???

After working for AA for near 20 years, I realized that AA was born with a horseshoe up their A$$. Even in the toughest of times, AA always manages to "stay afloat" In other words, AA will NEVER see the inside of a BK courtroom !!

If my prognostication comes true, the world will be controlled by these 3, as far as USA carriers go

USA...................WN..then.. ......AA and NW, in a tie for 2nd
Europe................AA and NW in a tie for 1st
Asia....................NW.....then ........AA
Caribean..............AA.................then ......NW
Central America....AA.................then.........NW
South America.......AA.................then .......NW
Canada.................NW.................then..AA
Alaska...................AA..................then........NW

I might be "off", a "tie" here, or a "2nd" there, but not by much.

I don't want to see oil at $80 a barrell, I don't want to pay $3.50 a gallon for regular. But if it happens, and I think it will, this airline Industry will Finally get the "ENEMA" that it desperately needs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it sounds like you've got it all figured out, so I guess there's no need to have a discussion.

motnot,
A little sarcasm I detect !

Perhaps we can have a future discussion about "who's" still operating if oil hits $80 a barrel !

Does this mean UA goes buh-bye?

If oil goes to $80 a barrel, the carriers that have "one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel", will, as you say, go "buh-bye" !!

Can YOU think of 3 carriers in that position, at this very moment ??

Its not the market and consumers who are flooding the industry with $39.00 fares! And as far as NW is concerned, Im sure they've got bigger and better things on their agenda than becoming known as another City Bus Company with wings.
