 can anyone guess what lead would not stand up for pledge at union meeting????

Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Standing and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is a private decision.

There are religious reasons (Jehovah's Witnesses, for example) that some do not do this, and it has to be respected. Respected, that is, if one is REALLY a patriot and wishes to uphold the Constitution of the United States...a document conveniently swept under the carpet when someone is percieved to be less that patriotic by the masses.

If they can not pledge allegiance to the US flag due to religious reasons, they certainly should not be pledging allegiance to a Union either, and especially not be a leader/officer of one.

My guess is this is just a union dope trying to be a tough-guy.

This is America....one as the right to do it or not.

Do I agree, NOT AT ALL!!! But, that is his choice.

Why is this newsworthy???????

This is one of the best post I've read on this website.

As much as someone refusing to stand for the Pledge might annoy me personally...I'm 100% in agreement that it's his/her Right not to do. America's greatness mostly lies in the ideals upon which the nation was founded....FREEDOM is the thing...and too many seek to diminish that most essential element.

I haven't said the pledge of allegiance since the 8th grade. Do they actually do this at union meetings?

Yes we do. And at every Democratic meeting (another bastion of godless commies! 😉 )I've ever attended.

'busdriver is right - it's a personal choice.

FWIW: There is no union pledge - officeholders take an oath when elected to office.

Sadly, far too many officeholders (like politicians - "...uphold and defend the Constitution...") forget.

While we may be a free country this type of behavior absolutely disgusts me , if one objects to the use of the word "god" in the pledge of allegiance they can use the other godless pledge which used to be the original pledge . Make no mistake about it , if war ever comes to our borders these type of individuals will be either the first to flee or the first to betray their country . It makes me sick to think that there are Americans dying for pieces of #### like this .

Freedom isn't free

EXACTLY!? Why in the hell would the Pledge of Allegiance be appropriate at a Union Meeting? What next "The Our Father" a few verses of "It's A Small World" or if Parker is invited "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"? It is stupid crap like this that really dilutes the issues.....if an individual doesn't want to recite it SO WHAT! (Several years ago AFA was determined to take a formal position on "Right to Life" yet really didn't want to listen to hundreds of F/A's soon to be furloughed. Politics and religion have NO BUSINESS in these forums. Sing your patriotic songs at home around the fireplace and read your Bible verses to yourself.....Don't subject others to WHAT YOU BELIEVE....quite honestly I couldn't care less!).
