What's new

Lets "put up...or SHUT UP" about the fiscal cliff, shall we !

Dell, if Obama were to walk on water and heal the lepers, he still wouldn't get your vote. Neither will Hillary. But what you say is pretty much right...and here's the thing...if we REALLY want to address this "fiscal cliff" (the Y2K problem of this decade), then we need, spending cuts...you POG's are on board with that...and we need tax increases. Really pretty much across the board. Not some smoke and mirrors using deductions and claiming that it's going to result in tons of new money coming in. Actual increases. It's the "short term pain" that neither party really wanted to address.

And what will Joe Six Pack see when we fall over the fiscal cliff? Well...his paycheck might go down by about $50 or so. Crappy to have less to bring in, but not so bad if it's combined with those mandatory cuts going over the cliff entails. After a while, he'll wonder why there was such a ruckus about this "fiscal cliff" anyhow...he might actually begin to realize that the Bush tax cuts didn't really impact him all that much. And the economy will begin to turn, and you're right... a well time tax cut to the MIDDLE class - giving them back that $50 they had to give up will make them feel really good about the democrats. And they'll remember that new tax cut come 2016. Then Hillary will get elected and the right will froth at the mouth for 8 MORE years.

Yeah right ! I'm sure Joe Six-pack will hardly notice !

"US holiday shopping season weakest since 2008!"
http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-1-150818-US-holiday-shopping-season-weakest-since-2008

And that's before Joe Six-pack, noticed he had less money to spend ! Good luck with your phantom recovery !

Joe Six Pack will see his check drop by $50. Is that going to be the end of the world? Hmmm...as much as I was against Walmart and Target being open Thanksgiving night, there were lines around the damn buildings that night, and people who got to the doors at 8 were waiting 20 minutes before they could get into stores. Do you think that it wasn't so much that Joe Six Pack wasn't spending, but that perhapst the "black Friday" specials were maybe a little TOO low? Didn't say that shoppers weren't shopping, just that retailers weren't bringing in as much.

Interestingly too (in the article you apparently didn't read) It said this
This year’s shopping season was marred by bad weather and rising uncertainty about the economy in the face of possible tax hikes and deep spending cuts early next year.

Had an odd late season hurricane that hit the most populated area of the country...causing many folks to spend money on putting their homes back together instead of X-boxes. Also they mentioned we had a school shooting where 20 kids were mowed down...Sort of takes the shopping spirit out of a nation.

YOur article DID cite that some drop might be due to worries of the "fiscal cliff", which the way the media and right wing talkers are playing it, will be just like Haley's comet hitting us. Again...when we go over that cliff and we see that it's only the rich guys jumping out of windows ala 1929, Joe Six Pack will wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.

The Obama Tax Cuts will be for the 2014 midterm.

Bears,

As much as I would like to see
John-Boehner-Oompa-Loompa.jpg

cave in, I sadly think that we are going over the cliff...

Unless he can convince some of his moderate republicans, and the majority of democrats in the house, I see no bill to avoid the cliff passing.

You think for an instant Obama didn't know those clowns couldn't come together with a spending agreement? He knew they wouldn't and the end result is automatic cuts that weren't tasty for either side. Thats all this crap is, preagreed to automatic spending cuts because both sides failed to come to an prior agreement.
Let it go.
Its also good play for trying to take back the house in 14.

Reid: House ‘Being Operated With A Dictatorship Of The Speaker’

AP
Upon his return from a brief vacation, Obama was facing what has become a familiar 11th-hour scenario — one the GOP says is his fault — and even a stopgap solution was in doubt.

House GOP leaders this week put the burden on Reid, urging him in a statement Wednesday to take up a House-passed bill that would extend current tax rates to all taxpayers, a bill Obama has vowed to veto.

Reacting to Reid’s floor remarks Thursday, Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said: “Harry Reid should talk less and legislate more if he wants to avert the fiscal cliff. The House has already passed legislation to do so.”

No Republican will vote on any bill until it lowers taxes. That means they will let the sequestration take effect and then vote to lower taxes on everyone making under $250,000. They will vote for a CR, then let the next congress work on the larger deal.

OK.
