LIVING IN PIT

there are pluses and minuses to any city...pgh isn't that bad.lots of cultural activities....besides pittsburgh was/is known as the melting pot.

That's true....I suffered a melt down when I lived there too!

i understand completely...there were several of my neighbors who actually had the same local outlook as you...as a matter of fact they secured positions at the local sewer authority....their attitude made them more than qualified...i think you will too.

Slightly off topic, but are prices at the stores in the airport the same as in the city ?

YES....the prices are the same. If you purchase a pair of jeans at The GAP in the airport, it's the same price at The GAP in the local malls. And no sales tax either on cloths in PA.

They had some great specialty shops in the airport and since it cost an arm and a leg to get into town the airport was great for shopping. The leather shop sold great purses at great prices and you got a discount if you showed your badge too. Good electronics store and a couple of good book stores. Clothing was good too if you took the time to look--again discounts if you showed your badge.

Any one up for a shopping trip to the airport then ? Sounds good to me.

I took an old girlfriend to the PIT airport when it first opened. We walked around and had dinner at Sbarros in the food court. Didn't get lucky that night, for some reason.

People used to go to the airport just to shop, before 9/11.

When I looked at buying a house near the airport, my realtor told me that Beaver County property taxes were actually higher than for the same house in Allegheny county. It's hard to tell since at least back then their tax values were not online. In the end, I settled on (twice) a house in North Fayette township, a township that's always jealous of Robinson 🙂 It's a large township with a lot of nice older neighborhoods and also several new developments from the Maronda, Ryan, Heartland and other builders.

Enjoy and good luck. It's still a buyer's market in Pittsburgh so you should be able to get a good deal on a place.

If you are looking to rent, I suggest anywhere in the North Hills. Quiet, relatively crime free, anywhere from 20-30 minutes from the airport and the rents are very reasonable. Plus, a very short trip into downtown and lots of shopping to the east and north. School districts are very good in the North Hills as well.

Hey yo yourself! Better look inward here, Delldude. The poster didn't (and I don't) associate blacks with crime, but you seem to.

Sky high states: I mentioned SOUTH HILLS because its a NICE PLACE TO LIVE. Great location, a short distance from the city and from the airport.

Just where would you live?
Upper Saint Clair?
Mt Lebanon?
East Liberty?
Shadyside?
Butler County?
Mount Washington?
Point Breeze?
North Side?
Fayette County?
