The local TV news station NBC10 reported that they are getting text messages and emails from passengers reporting the have been stuck on a plane for many hours (possibly since 10 am) after departing the gate.

A local radio station KYW 1060 reported that it was a flight bound for PBI.

There were no other details provided.

Must be flight 1877 PHL-PBI. Left at 10:30am only to return to the gate and cancel at 3:56pm. A friend was on the runway for 4 hours waiting to deice and could not. So they cancelled as well. I hear it's a mess.

What a disgrace. Then again, Sunny and 90 In PHX.

I wonder how well the News10 vans got around the city today.

"...not allowed by federal regulations to deplane using the air stairs"

I haven't heard this before. Does it refer to not while on a taxiway or something of the sort??

Right from CAT CREW Flight 1877:
Sched: PHL-PBI 1000 1255 734
Actual😛HL-PHL
1030 1556 734 AIRCRAFT # 0424

I feel bad for these people missing their cruises. It was just on CBS3. I always go 2 days ahead of time when going on vacation. Needless to say 6.5 hours is excessive. As I have witnessed in PHL no one can make a decision. It's like the managers are in a Marx Brothers skit.

"So we've been trying to get back to the gate, but the captain has repeated over and over again that the airport does not have the ability to get us back to the gate (and) we're not allowed by federal regulation to deplane using the air stairs."

The above is an exerpt from the article.

What the hell is that kind of BS, can't deplane using air stairs? Everytime I fly into San Jose California ( Other than AA or WN) I had to walk down air stairs. UA, CO, NW, AA and AC all the RJ's flights walk on the tarmac to the terminal. Just tell the passengers the truth. In the long run it makes the airline look bad. They interviewed a lady from that flight and she said she was on board for about 4 hours and now she has been in line for over 90 minutes to catch a taxi. I think the news is adding the plane wait and the cab wait together. And poor PHL agents have to use "Shares". Good Luck PHL agents.

They must be using SEPTA!

He means you can't put people out into the SIDA (Security ID Area). Where are they going to go? Walk across the taxiway or wherever the heck they feel like? You can't just pull up an airstair and dump the people out. It would be nice, but TSA and the local airport cops would be all over that!

In some citys they are set up for that and have escorts standing by. PHL or JFK or most places are not.

Nobody is lying about anything. It IS FAA regulations in PHL. You may be supprised to know that security is local at airports, thus it varies from location to location; very frustrating to flight crews.

The logical end to all of this is simple, cancel everything. That is what JetBlue and Delta are doing today. I bet LCC starts cancelling everything after this. The public always gets what they deserve.

OK, but how can The other airlines RJ's people walk off and into the terminal? Plus PHL has air stairs in working, some charters use them. These people on the plane were already screened prior to boarding already. These people were not coming in from an airport that had no kind of security check. I am not sure they even do that anymore. But I understand that its a nightmare when weather like this occurs. We need Dean Martin and George Kennedy to start piloting the flights.

Probably because it's been sleeting almost all afternoon....I'm sure airstairs would be quite dangerous for deplaning passengers.....also the ramp and tarmac have got to be a little treacherous by now too!

Well like already stated people use the airstairs right next to the terminals, not out on the middle of a taxiway. There are probably different regulations depending on where you are.

Also i have been stuck on a plane because they would not allow anyone on the tarmac due to incliment weather. It was a small airport with no jetways. We were litteraly at the gate but couldn't use the stairs for an hour.

Its not like the air stairs were sitting inside a warm dry hanger. That would have been a mess going down, with all the sleet. I guess when I do the SJC runs, the weather isn't a factor there, and if it does rain, I Believe there are canopies off to the side. Sometimes something so obvious tends to not come to my mind. I guess I overlook that.

Confirmed. I have spoken to a few of them. It's BAD in PHL right now.

US Airways, in a decision that highlighted JetBlue's sensitivity to the problem, canceled none of its East Coast flights early in the day. But by midday, it had canceled 55 flights on its main airline, plus 359 of the company's feeder flights, mostly into and out of LaGuardia and Philadelphia.

Company spokesman Andrew Christie, who earlier had said, "The weather is fine for flying," said the problem developed when rain and ice caused de-icing problems that grounded flights.

The Phoenix, Arizona-based airline will handle any air traffic control issues arising from the weather case-by-case, Christie said.

It took me over 2.5 to make it through the city and over to NJ which normally takes me 1/2 hour. there is a lot of sleet on the ground but very easy to shoval so I would be surprised why they could not clear a path for the AC to get back.
