MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - July 18, 2005

This is Jack Stephan with a US Airways MEC update for Monday, July 18th, with three new items.

Item 1. MEC Chairman Bill Pollock has called a special MEC meeting to convene in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 at 10 a.m. and will adjourn Thursday, July 21st at 5:00 p.m. or at the completion of business. The agenda for the meeting is:

1) Pilot access to 401(k) trading and related cost.

2) Update on MDA developments from Captain Duane Woerth, President of the Air Line Pilots Association.

3) Proposed Flight Pay Loss for Dennis Brennan.

4) Election of the Joint Negotiating Committee.

5) Briefings regarding the proposed merger with America West Airlines.

6) Briefings regarding the US Airways restructuring.

7) US Airways' CEO Bruce Lakefield’s report to the MEC.

Pilots who are interested in serving on the Joint Negotiating Committee should contact the MEC office at 800-USAIR MEC.

US Airways President and CEO Bruce Lakefield will address the MEC and pilots on Thursday. The time for his report to the MEC is yet to be determined and will be announced on the code a phone and website as soon as we receive that information. Parts of Mr. Lakefield's address are expected to be received in closed session.

The meeting will be held at the Pittsburgh Crowne Plaza, located at 1160 Thorn Run Road in Coraopolis, PA. The telephone number for transportation information to the hotel is 412-262-2400. All US Airways pilots are encouraged to attend the meeting. Please be advised that portions of the special MEC meeting may be in closed session.

Item 2. There has been much talk on the line concerning what position the merger committee may be taking in the upcoming seniority integration with the America West pilots. It is important to understand that the process of any potential seniority integration is just beginning. For the past several weeks the Merger Committee has been focused on getting organized and getting support people in place and up to speed. Once the committee receives an official copy of the America West pilots’ seniority list, the process of examining the specific issues of this list integration will begin. At this point no list integrations have been done and obviously no positions have been established. This process will take some time.

ALPA Merger Policy specifies 5 goals for seniority list integration. These goals are all about what you will be able to buy with your seniority upon integration, and as important, into the future. The goals as well as the rest of ALPA Merger Policy are available on the Merger Committee page at US Airwayspilots.org. The Merger Committee will continue to add the latest merger information to their web page. There will also be a feature added soon that will allow pilots to submit questions to the Merger Committee. This will be a great way to validate any rumors that you hear on the line. Answers will be posted so the information will be available to everyone. Check the page often as we move through what will most likely be a long process.

Item 3. The newest issue of the MEC E-Report has been e-mailed to all pilots with an e-mail address on file with ALPA. The MEC E-Report, which is sent out as an Adobe PDF file that supports hyperlinks, contains important MEC and MEC Officer news, MEC committee information and US Airways and industry news links.

Please remember we now have 1,574 pilots on furlough with approximately 400 pilots currently working at MDA or Jets For Jobs carriers.

Thank you for listening.
