US Airways ALPA MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - July 20, 2007

This is Arnie Gentile with a US Airways MEC update for Friday, July 20th, with three new items.

Item 1. Late last night ALPA’s Executive Council (EC) passed a resolution concerning the AAA/AWA Seniority Integration Award. The resolution, background information and a cover letter from ALPA President, Captain John Prater, is now posted under “What’s New†on the pilot’s only website and will be emailed to all pilots.

MEC Chairman, Captain Jack Stephan recorded a Chairman’s Message to the pilots concerning the EC’s resolution and is available by pressing prompt 2 on the Code-a Phone.

The initial reading of the document is positive as it does not seem to harm the position of the AAA pilots. The resolution does not deny our request to have the Nicolau award overturned nor does it authorize the list being sent to US Airways. The EC is of the opinion that taking any action at this time would not be appropriate. A careful reading of the resolution will outline the Executive Council’s stated jurisdiction and role with regard to seniority integration under ALPA Merger Policy and also their acknowledgement of the importance of the issues facing both pilot groups as well as to every member of the Association.

Item 2. A Special MEC Meeting has been called by MEC Chairman Jack Stephan. The meeting shall commence at 9:00 am, Tuesday, July 24 and shall adjourn Wednesday, July 25, at 5:00 pm or at the completion of business.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

1. Address by ALPA National Officers and Counsel regarding Executive Council Resolution on the AAA/AWA Seniority Integration Award.

2. Report from the Negotiating Committee and Joint Negotiating Committee.

3. Report from the Merger Committee and Counsel.

4. Discussion of the CBA options brought forward by the Rice Committee for consideration by the MEC.

5. Discussion of management pilot participation in profit sharing pool.

6. Discussion of whether recently recalled furloughed pilots should be unfrozen and allowed to participate in the next bid and other alternatives.

7. Report from the MEC Secretary/Treasurer regarding whether a special assessment for the pilots’ seniority defense and related issues will be necessary.

8. Discussion, if necessary, on Union Space Positive Travel.

The meeting will be held at the Park Hyatt Washington, D.C., 1201 24th and M Street NW, Phone 202-789-1234. There is no hotel van service, however pilots can take the Airport Metro Blue Line directly to the Foggy Bottom station. Taxi is available for approximately $13.00. Portions of the meeting may be in closed session.

Item 3. The MEC Furlough Administrator has posted an updated APL list under the Jets 4 Jobs home page.

W.A.R. Item 720

AIM 7-3-9
Because of the possible effects of wake turbulence, the controllers are required to apply no less than specified minimum separation for aircraft operating behind heavy and large non-heavy aircraft.

Heavy jet behind a heavy jet: 4 miles
Large/heavy aircraft behind a B-757: 4 miles
Small aircraft behind a B-757: 5 miles
Small/large aircraft behind a heavy jet: 5 miles

Educate to Vacate:

Definition of a windfall: We previously stated 2,090 narrowbody captain years were transferred from US Airways to America West. In addition 2,373 years' worth of widebody captain positions were transferred from US Airways pilots and given directly to America West pilots.

Equal pay for Equal Work:

Since the merger, most all employee groups and all of management, including the America West pilots have received pay raises.

Follow the three-prong approach, fly safe and thanks for listening.

Gee sounds like ALPA is promoting a slowdown.

Better get ready for Jerry Glass and the lawyers.

Where do you see that? Those are standard rules for aircraft separation. They've been "the law" for at least 20 years. For someone that knows all like yourself, I would have thought that you knew that.
