Mechanics Start holding Informational Picketing

Mechanics in stations across the system started holding Informational Picketing this morning. "They got bailed out, we got sold out", and "Enough is enough" were two of the many chants used to express our dissatisfaction. After four years of extended negotiations and scores of broken promises and delays, including one last friday when the company notoified the Union they would not be meeting with the TWU mechanics are fed up and are now taking the message to the streets.

Doubtful there will be much sympathy for anything remotely similar to the events at Zucchini (or whatever) Park.

How many mechanics are in the system at AA? 10,000 plus? And we have what? 15 in JFK? If approximately 20% of your work force is on days off and the other 50% are not working due to the shift they are on shouldn't you have more than 15? Sounds like election time politics in 562 and nothing more. Sure the deal is not great but after four years and the TWU M&R super committee we have an epic fail.

The solidarity we need is not there on the floor. Of course that is probably the TWU's fault as well.

And Bob wants to ask for release knowing that his "troops" aren't willing to risk losing a few hours of their day much less striking or a slowdown if we get released. Winning!

What is really hilarious is watching "tough guy" union presidents picketing the company while on company paid time. That is awesome!

Exactly how much support/sympathy do these pickets attract from the public? On just about any other forum/comments on news articles, the majority of the public are against unions. They always say unions are greedy, cause companies to go bankrupt, have out lived their cause in creating better working/safer conditions, and we make to much money.

How much support did you receive from the traveling public this morning?

They always say unions are greedy, cause companies to go bankrupt, have out lived their cause in creating better working/safer conditions, and we make to much money.

We damn sure ain't over paid. It always struck a nerve with me how the college boys who can't get hoods open on there BMWs and Lexus' are always accusing commercial aviation mechanics of being overpaid. I notice they didn't pursue the professional maintenance field.
Clueless wise asses.......full of #### more than a Thanksgiving turkey(there kin folk).

Ever notice how the local news stations always report on the stuff we turned down such as pay raise, holiday's returned etc.... while saying nothing on the stuff we give up such as medical coverage, increased medical costs etc....
Another stab in the back and turning the public against unions.

The news stories always say Americans unions turned down the latest tentative agreement which included pay raise, gaining 5 holidays, 5 sick days. Nothing about what we would give up to "gain" those things. It would be nice if our local would set the story straight with the news stations....

Well, assuming you can count at least 29 mechanics are in the video. We had around 50 in that session and around half that the next session. By the way both candidates were there.

Yes, the TWU is to blame for the lack of solidarity, just as management is to blame for the performance of the company. The TWU is responsible for the structure of the Union, they could change it, make it similar to what works such as what the SWA Flight Attendants and Local 100 have but instead we have a hodgepodge mix of locals with no consistent thought process behind the makeup of those locals. Weighted votes, a lack of structure, unelected officials who outrank elected ones, Nobody's in charge. It's a mess, and yes the International is responsible for that.

Who cares? The fact that we could be heard upstairs at the ticket counter helps boost the morale of the workers, not only the guys who walked but also those in at work.

I disagree with your assessment on public sentiment on unions. The recent election results in Ohio seem to contradict you, even the corporate press has reported that poles show that the majority do support unions.

One of he guys who walked today quit Delta and said that he likes being union.

Sad thing is thats all the press releases from the international say. I've written letters to reporters on s several occasions to set he record straight, however they are rarely cited. Explaining the real costs of losing retiree medical aren't as easy for a reporter to build a story around that will help sell papers, air time etc.
