Members in Good Standing?

This is more allong the lines of "all we want is a vote".

There were rules there, also. Sufficient interest had to be shown, and according to those counting the cards there was not. All parties are subject to the same rules. No exceptions.

Yet, some actually believed the rules should be ignored - the same rules that, without a doubt, would be quoted to the letter had things gone a different way.

No special treatment, no special consideration. That's why we have rules. They're there to be followed. Some can't handle that concept.
You can make rules but the LMRDA limits what you can do. You can not for instance impliment a rule which would exclude a majority of the membership from seeking office, low attendance at membership meetings voids having a membership meeting attendance requirement. So even if a rule seems reasonable to you if the effect of the rule is to exclude the majority of the members it is illegal per the DOL.

None of you good ol boys care to address this?

A, 12 months or 12 years, whats the difference? How do you feel about the fact that the head of the TWU, Jim Little, spent several years in management?

B. Whats that?

C. Membership meeting attendance was thrown out by the DOL because a unions rules can not prohibit a majority of the membership from running for office and low attendance is pretty much the norm throughout the labor movement. Most Locals dont even have the facilities to handle majority participation at union meetings. Its a fair rule, after all membership is compulsory. Lousy leaders who are successful at driving members away from attending meetings should not be rewarded by allowing that to be used as a tool to prevent competition.

Bruce Nichols ran for Local 514 President in 2001.

Bruce was

A
Man
For
Action

He remained on the ballot.

I do find this discussion rather entertaining in the fact that the twu wishes to exclude members from running from office, as if they are in any position of power at this point in time.

I'll make a real simple suggestion for them: "include all members who want to run and let the membership decide the leaders, or the war is on."

If you will not allow all members to run for office and embrace change, we will either find or start a union that will.

I'm not going to sit by and allow another bought off twu Tulsa president and his bootlicking followers decide my fate at the bargaining table.

The choice is yours: Let them run--or be run off the property. 😉
