How about Phoenix :
1. "Mythology in ancient mythology, a bird resembling an eagle that lived for 500 years and then burned itself to death on a pyre from whose ashes another phoenix arose."
2. "A supremely beautiful, rare, or unique person or thing."
I'd say it sort of fits....

When I started in this industry 21 years ago Continental was a bad word. Times change and Continental is now a respected well run carrier. People love to see someone fall but they also love a good come back. This is what I think will happen with the name Usairways. They will say remember when Usairways was a mess its amazing how they turned it all around. The truth will be that its not even the same Usairways it will be a new company that combined 2 carriers and just used our old name.

It is funny someone said "US Scareways". Some years ago, I was jumpseating on an airline other than US AIrways and we had to return to GSO and make an emergency landing (Loss of system A on a 737-200). As we sat on the runway waiting for a tug to pull us to the gate (due to there being no hydraulic fluid for nosewheel steering) a passenger across the ailse looked at another passenger and commentted, "There goes US Scare." I was amazed considering the events that we were at that time encountering. Image.

You know what, let people say ignorant things. Fact of the matter is they'll fly US Airways because the airline flies to where people want to go at an affordable price. Hence, the term "affordable" that should mean where the airline makes money and the customer isn't ripped off.

Those of us who are taking the buyout, but not eligible for retirement, are keeping our fingers crossed for the retention of the name USAirways. Anything else, and our flight benefits are history!
Would'nt be just a horrible slap in the face to lose them before we even get them?
On the other hand, the company has admitted this has been in the planning for a long, long time. If we did lose them, could we file suit for misrepresentation of a benefit? In other words, they offered the "carrot" of lifetime flight benes on USAirways when they knew it would no longer be a name-brand?
Just a thought, feel free to chime in everyone!

Someone suggested combining the carrier codes for both airlines (HP and US), adding an E and an L to make the new name:
