Now that a DL/Nw Merger seems to be happenning , what happens to US Air ? A friend of mine from UA says that they have no interest in US Air because it would be like merging with 2 airlines.
I have recently been in a training class run by HP employees and they are so disorganized that it is pathetic ! Their computer systen is terrible , Qik and Maestro are so old and outdated , yet they refuse to switch over to the newer East technology.
Where does this rudderless ship go ? I hope not down the toilet like it seems !

Nike will merge with US Airways.

It would make a lot of sense to put it up for sale as two airlines, it's not like much of anything has merged in the two years anyway, so essentially it is two airlines.

US East is two east coast hubs and three focus cities. One an international gateway with high O&D, one is the only major southeast connecting hub aside from ATL. Both complement several of the majors well, and the three focus cities are valuable to virtually any of them. Much of the east's capacity is through Express carriers, mainly contracted 50 seat RJs, so easy capacity reduction. The inherent costs of an east coast, short haul network are more easily absorbed by a huge network carrier, and the business oriented markets are far more suited to feed an international network than a leisure one. The labor groups are relatively small compared to any possible acquiring carrier and come with the lowest cost contracts. No management to worry about as that would remain with the west.

The West and their management team have experience in competing, or at least surviving Southwest. They are focused on being the cheapest product and appealing to the budget leisure traveler. Their forte is Las Vegas and Cancun, not international routes and east coast business shuttles. They'd be better paired with a true LCC such as AirTran or Spirit.

I've been in many relationships that just were not destined to be. I've been part of couples that are two great individuals apart, but a horrible mess together. This one has not even been consumated and it's a disaster.

If that were the cAAse, they'd take the assets, ditch the employees, and follow suit with the assets a couple years later. A clAAsic AA acquisiton.

Just throwing my 2 cents in here how about Frontier they have an all Airbus Fleet and there company motto is "A WHOLE NEW ANIMAL" we could be called "A WHOLE AIR" 😳 since there are a lot of us who think our airline is run by a bunch of "A WHOLES" 😳 :mf_boff: it just might work

US should just buy Mesa, for a few reasons.

Keep all the money inhouse that they pay Mesa and Mesa looks like it is heading towards Chapter 11 and then Doogie be the CEO of the largest regional/express carrier cause that is how is running US Airways.

US is not an attractive merger partner for any of the major players. And it will certainly not be the acquiring airline. It will be the acquiree or will be broken up and sold in pieces.

This could be why management does not want single contracts, and why they have made no effort to get labor peace.
Something's up, but who knows what it is.....sometimes I wonder if Tempe knows......

Actually Art, they are in Negotiations with Fleet and Mechanics this month with more dates scheduled.

I think that US and Aeroflot would make a great combo. The Russians a big drinkers & Parker ought to feel right at home. Given how things are going in this business in general, Parker might do well to follow the advice given to Flounder in Animal House to "drink heavily".

But seriously, I don't think that this management team can sell itself to anyone. Not that there are not parts of the busness which would not draw interest. The unresolved union issues ( especially this continuing mess with the pilots ) create its own "no fly" zone around US. And truthfully from the pax side, the ball game is over in my book. I'm a prisoner of PHL and that's why I'm still sitting in a seat. I have no faith & no trust in this present management team ( or good will towards them ). The only thing I do feel badly about is that lots of decent employees are teathered to the Tempe wagon.

At this stage I'm just trying to fly point A to point B while watching to see if service/reliability improves enough for us to keep all of our flying with US in 2009. We're beginning to resolve ourselves to the idea of doing TA flights with BA or driving up to EWR in 2009. A merger or break-up which flushes this wretched Tempe managment from the picture would be a welcome event which would give us a reason to hang in there longer. My own guess is that these two potential mega mergers will set the aviation vultures into the air looking to pick the bones of aviation stragglers like Tempe. But that is not something I'm wishing for.
